Sea World - 05/03/08 (Pic Heavy)

Hey there! Just got back from a double dose of theme parks, my daughter and I started the day at Sea World and ended it at Magic Kingdom.

Should you wish to read my Magic Kingdom trip report, please visit HERE.

Should you wish to see all the photos I took at Sea World, please visit
HERE.

The day was gorgeous and there was just enough of a breeze where we didn't feel "sticky" all day. The sun was brutal though, we applied sunblock TWICE and I still got burned on my back and shoulders.

The entrance always sets the theme for me, I think it's very beautiful.

Our first stop was to see Blue Horizons, as we missed it last trip, I wanted to catch it this time around. It's a show that mixes people, birds and dolphins together. I admit the story was kinda all over the place but it was still entertaining and they had plenty to see.

They even had acrobats, diving into the water from way up high and this bird costume performer.

It was a good show, I do like that the main performers come out and answer questions after the show. Christina told me after it was over that she wants to be the girl who swims with the dolphins. So when we met up with the performers she asked her all kinds of questions, "Is it scary? "What's it like swimming with the dolphins?" etc.. The girl answered all of them and was really nice!

Our next stop was the penguin encounter, I had no idea there were so many species of penguin!

Next up was the Sea Lion exhibit, this area isn't as popular as the dolphins so there is no waiting should you want to feed them. It's $4 for 3 fish and the sea lions are more than eager to take them off your hands. LOL However, be wary of the birds, they are vicious and will take them right out of your fingers if you let them!

And they make the cutest noise when begging for fish too! LOL

Their habitat.

The next show we checked out was Clyde and Seamore Take Pirate Island. It was as kitchy as it comes with cheesy movies references and corny jokes but it was all in good fun and the animals were fabulous.

This mime came out and entertained us before the show, he was very good and very funny, much to the dismay of the people he tormented on the way in.

Showtime!

I love sea otters, I think they are my favorite in that family of animals.

Shark Encounter was next, LOVED this attraction, the tunnel was awesome. We were kinda stalked by a shark though, it was creepy, followed us from the entrance all the way to the exit.

There were also people in the tank, crazy, crazy people.

Our stalker..

Afterwards we grabbed some lunch at "Voyagers", the food is "ok" but if you want to have a nice, peaceful lunch, I recommend this back area, it's kinda hidden and you can people watch to your hearts content!

Sky Tower was closed (boooo) so we started our trek towards the Wild Artic.

I did not know that there was a music festival going on, Viva La Musica, so there was a lot of latin music being pumped into the air, made me want to dance. LOL

Probably my favorite exhibit at Sea World is Wild Artic, the setting is some remote base in Antarctica. They even start it off right by putting you in a simulator and flying you directly there! From the views and the sounds of the outside blizzard blowing in your ears, this is hands down my favorite animal exhibit at Sea World. Not to be missed!

We were also just on time to watch a feeding for the bottlenose dolphins.

More excellent theming..

On the way out we passed through the festival area, we stopped to take a photo with these two.

They even had food booths like SW's version of the Food and Wine Festival, but instead of wine they had a lot of Hispanic food. Had I known I would have skipped lunch and sampled some cuisine.

On the way out we saw this new family. TOO CUTE!!

This psycho bird kept trying to eat the baby duckies! BAD BIRDIE!

The End!

Thanks for the great report Summer! I love Blue Horizons! I didn't get to see the Pirate show, I'll have to check it out soon. I love that arctic attraction too. I saw it when it had the "Polar Express" layover for the holidays, which I liked a lot... but I'd like to see the regular version too. Maybe I'll make it there next week!

I think once our Universal passes expire in August, we may replace them with Sea World passes. I'm starting to get a bit burned out on Universal although we still have a good time. I'd like something new and we still can't afford the Disney passes yet.

I think they are Commerson Dolphins. I saw them at Seaworld San Diego and they look like small whales.

I love your pics! You have to give Blue Horizons another chance! It is my all time favorite show at SeaWorld!

Marina the girl is trying to find the place where she can swim with the dolphins and fly with the birds, and she finds it on the Blue Horizon, that mysterious place that you see when looking out in the distance on the ocean where the sky and sea become one.

Anyways.... YAY great pics!

Ohhh! Well, thanks for that light bulb moment. :P I will go again, I'm thinking because I was to busy snapping photos, I lost the flow of the story. Next time I go I'll just put the camera down and watch.

This is also the show where the dolphin collided with another one and died. After seeing this jump, I can't understand why.
That accident happened at Discovery Cove, not Sea World Park. It happened at the swim with the dolphins area.

Based on my experience going to Sea World, SD ( I love the free entrance for military, so I go at least once a year) the large mini-whales are Commerson Dolphins. The white ones you called Bottlenose (those are in the show) are actually Beluga Whales.

Not that big of a mistake to make and understandable.
