From Under the Desk Of: Brad Bird Blu-ray Edition

By C. W. Oberleitner
November 2, 2007

Another in our occasional series of housekeeping articles in which we explain how our man in Hollywood is mistaken—yet again—for that other well known bearded blogger from the backwoods of New Hampshire. And, why Blu-ray may be more of a threat to theatre owners than its competitor HD DVD.

Jim Hill. And I'd definitely agree with Brad about him...

Just as in the article linked in the other Blu-Ray thread, there is nothing substantial in all the corporate marketing-speak beyond the (undeniable) fact that Blu-Ray has a higher storage capacity.

Once Disney picked a horse (Blu-Ray), which they did long ago, everything that anyone associated with Disney has to say on the topic boils down to "that's what we use, so we're promoting it", and nothing more.

In other words, Brad Bird is talking up Blu-Ray because his employer uses Blu-Ray. Period.

EDIT: and this from the O-meon piece...

Quote:
Backhandedly referring to their customers as cheapskates, K-Mart announced it will drop Blu-ray players and discs for being too costly for K-Mart shoppers.
...can similarly be translated simply as "O-meon supports Blu-Ray." If anything, the news shows that HD-DVD is picking up steam. But O-meon apparently finds that unacceptable, so it's turned on its head and written as some kind of insult.
