Pollo Campero...opening soon at DTD

The new restaurant at Downtown Disney, Pollo Campero, which replaces the former McDonald's, is set to open in the next few days. Cast Members were treated to a preview of the place.. and while I was not able to crash the party, I understand the place was fully operationals and offering menu items for CMs to try.... For what I could see, there are several counters in the building.. from fresh and helthy options to fried items like chicken.. and also a juice bar.

Notice the new signage on the building.. Pollo Campero as well as "fresh..A-peel". Not sure if this "fresh" is a slogan or another franshise within the building.

It is Now Open!!! Just finished eating, it was pretty good. They were very well staffed but the placed was packed. It will certainly be foreign to Billy Bob from the Midwest, I am very familiar with the food.

What was never mentioned in previous press releases was the presence of Babycakes NYC Bakery which is a vegan and gluten free bakery. Did not try that LoL!

Pollo Campero and Fresh-A-Peel are two separate restaurants housed in one building. From what I hear, Fresh-A-Peel is a brand new concept that serves more healthy fare as well as sugar-free, gluten-free, etc options.

The construction walls were still up when I was at DTD last weekend. Glad to hear it's finally open. Next time I'm up there I want to give them a try. Though I'm going to be hearing Chicken Now over at the nearby outlets calling my name. LOVE me some Chicken Now!

There are Pollo Campero restaurants in several major US cities, including Houston, where I am, mostly in Latino neighborhoods. It's a Guatemalan chain restaurant.

I tried them once. Not too bad! Food was a little salty for my taste, but the place is clean and they have an upbeat atmosphere. I wouldn't be opposed to going there again, but it wasn't so impressive that I can't wait to go back.

"Pollo campero el pollito que yo quiero" (pollo campero, the little chicken I want) says many of the comercials I seen.

I have eaten in Campero since early 90s, so I have lot of experience on it.

The pieces are small, but they are tasty I would NOT classify as "healthy" since is as "healthy" as KFC is; they have 3 types of chicken :

traditional (fried)

crunchy (breded)

Rosted

I ate at Pollo Campero today and I liked it. Definitely better than McDonald's was. I tried the fried chickin with a side of black beans & white rice. Everything tasted fresh and good. I loved the chicken, which was juicy and flavorful. 2 pieces of chicken (your choice of a breast & wing or leg & thigh) and one side for $6.99 is a great deal. The staff was great too. They had a couple people in the queue asking if anyone had any questions regarding the menu. Very nice to see since this is a brand new establishment. I'll definitely eat there again. My parents liked it too (my dad got fried chicken as well and my mom got the chicken strips).
