Marathon trip for Jan 2010

My wife and I are looking at visiting WDW for the 2010 Marathon Weekend. Given we live in Australia this will be quite an undertaking.

I'm hoping somebody here will be able to help us out with some questions.

1) Is the Marathon weekend very busy? How far will we need to book ahead?

2) Should we allocate days before or after the marathon to see the parks? Which will be more crowded?

3) Are there any entry requirements for the race (beyond the fee)? Do they ever fill up?

1) Is the Marathon weekend very busy? How far will we need to book ahead?

It really depends on what promotions they are offering at that time, you can book the room only now and add the package options later and/or rebook at a lower rate if you go with a Disney travel agent that will do that for you (like Magical Travel... the cruise line sponsors on this board)

2) Should we allocate days before or after the marathon to see the parks? Which will be more crowded?

It should not matter much most folks that come for the marathon do not swarm the parks. I've been there during Marathons and have not noticed an appreciable difference.

3) Are there any entry requirements for the race (beyond the fee)? Do they ever fill up?

Having 2 bad knees and all I have never attempted to actually run one, I've watched and cheered on friends but never formally participated, I would ask Nobodyshome or OFTEric as I know they have participated in the WDW marathons/fun runs in the past.
