I didn't even know there was one there! I don't remember ever seeing it. Maybe I wasn't paying attention...
^^ It was over in the DTD "West Side" between the AMC Movie theaters and Disney Quest on the other side of the old Pleasure Island from the World of Disney Store. Rumors of it's impending demise have been circulating for over a year now...

This is very disappointing news. I loved the Megastore mostly for the fact that I didn't have one close to where I lived and they always had very unique items there that I couldn't find anywhere else. I remeber finding the DisneyLand USA Disney Treasures collection there (which at the time was out of print). Sad news....I wonder what they will decide to put in there.
If I had to guess probably more shopping and dining experiences to go along with the PI renovations... After all we all want more shopping experiences while in WDW....

Yeah but ALL of the Virgin Megastores across the country are closing now. This has nothing to do with the rumors really because this is news of yet another company falling to the perils of the recession.Originally Posted by Jerren

This really sucks. I could easily spend hours in there browsing. I loved their $10 sales. They had some great imports too.
When I was there Dec. of 2007, I heard it was closing. Last year, still there. I guess I'll believe it when I see it.

^^ It's official. Virgin Megastore is going out of business and is closing ALL 6 of their stores across the country.

I'm thinking that the long-rumored ESPNzone will take the Megastore's place.
That sucks! Virgin mega store was always a favorite stop at DTD we could browse there for quite awhile and often find some great stuff. Even when there was a Virgin store here in town I never really spent much time there as is the case with most record stores. Not sure who could take it's place and still be as good. I am afraid though that they will just divide it up and make new shops and restaurants like they are doing to PI, before you know it DTD will be just another ordinary outdoor mall. I'd be OK if ESPN zone does move there, it would be better than it going into Disney Quest as was rumored before, but still not a place I would get to enjoy as much as when it was Virgin.
I have so many amusing Virgin Megastore memories. And it was the ONLY place I could find my Orson CDs (and imports from various other bands I like) as they weren't released in the US and the imports from Amazon were more expensive compared to Virgin.
All the stores are slated to close sometime this summer.
I'm going to have to make a final run this spring and get what I can.
that's probably why. I dont think I've ever walked that far down....
Somehow I don't think so, the space is huge as Aimster pointed out, and there's already the ESPN Grill on the boardwalk not sure it makes sense to have one in each entertainment district.

It was my understanding taht if ESPN Zone opened in DTD the smaller Boardwalk location was going to close. Virgin is a big space but it was rumored to go into the Disney Quest before and that very close in size. Also the ESPN Zones i've been to, (NY and DTD Anaheim) are pretty large so i think they might be able to use a good portion of the space if not all of it.
