Re: Photos of abandoned amusement parks

Marshal Scotty's was sold, and became Fraser's Frontier. Under that title it lasted a couple of years , untill the relocated Huish Family Fun Center (now Boomers!) opened up down in El Cajon. The church that was next door to the property bought it from the last owners, ostensibly to prevent it from reopening it. Rumblings were that there were problems between the park and the congregation, something having to do with their Sat nite and Sun morning services.

A few links for SoCal people:

This page shows some abandoned Marineland pics, as well as old Magic Mountain, Busch Gardens Van Nuys, and the Enchanted Forest:
    http://themepark.sitesbyrob.com/

These don't show the parks in their abandoned state, but it does feature many parks that no longer exist, such as Santa's Village, Deer Park, Lion Country, etc.:

Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

Santa's Village looks really cool. I love places like that... why did they all have to fade away?

You beat me to it, Jester. I love that site and wanted to make sure everyone knows about it, especially for Marineland.

The abandoned park Dogpatch USA is not very far from where I live. My husband who is a native of Arkansas remembers going to this park as a child. I have driven by it a few times but not in several years. It's not a very big park either.

Just to clarify, is it illegal to be on those properties after they closed, I mean are they fenced off or is it like a ghosttown (I have been to many of those off 66) where it's just simply abandoned?

You know, it would be a fascinating but thoroughly depressing contest to get people with serious PhotoShop skills to do up some photos of Disneyland to try to imagine what it would be like if it were somehow abandoned for 30 years: rusting metal, faded and peeling paint, plants coming up through cracks, ivy overtaking buildings and stuff starting to fall over. Kind of like I Am Legend.

I know, I know. Too depressing. Sorry to even think of such a thing!

There was a Santa's Village near Chicago (I wanna say in Dundee, but it might be off of Dundee Road instead) that closed quite recently. Just not profitable enough to run, apparently. I took my nephew there about 10 years ago, always hoped to bring my kids there someday, but we didn't make it. Had I known it would be my last visit ever, I would have taken a bunch of pictures. I have great memories from my own childhood from it.

There is a park in or near Maywood Illinois called Kiddieland. We've gone there a few times with the kids...it's not bad. I've heard rumors that it may close for good sometime soon, also. In its case, I think it's more about a land lease thing between branches of the family that runs it. The park itself is profitable, I guess, but the land could be sold at such a profit that it might close for that reason. (Though with this real estate dropoff, perhaps Kiddieland is safe for a few more years...)

Depressing yes, if some one could conjure something up, I'd really like to see it.
