What a fun report Pengy! You are making what could be a simple "I went here and there was some pretty stuff" into a "what comes next?" enchanting read!

    Oh, and

Yeah, what were you thinking with that title? Count me in with others who thought that you came all this way and didn't tell any NW Micechatters?

*Stink - should we get her a map?

Yes!! I need a map!! Where was I?? It was so cold while I was there (to me at least) I was thinking I must be in Alaska!

Hey, to those of us closer to the Mexican border... anything north of..oh.. Bakersfield is the North Pacific!!

I think they think of themselves as North Pacific because I kept seeing a lot of "local" commercials and commercials from Southern Oregon that kept mentioning "The Spirit of the North Coast."

How cool! It is so beautiful... so pretty and GREEN, which is something I don't see much of living in the So Cal desert. I'm ready to go back again!

Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement everyone! Even I keep thinking, "Good grief aren't I done YET??" But it is like reliving the trip by doing the report!

    More soon!

Re: My Great Pacific Northwest Journey

Part .... oh good grief... its getting embarassing counting now!! This is the trip report that never ends!!! Lets just at this point say its the next part shall we??

After Fort Humboldt we still had some time before we wanted to get home and start dinner, so my daughers fiance took us to another point of interest in Eureka.

Entrance to the Sequoia Park Zoo

Its not a big zoo, but its a very pretty little zoo. It’s actually been in operation since 1907, and is one of the smallest institutions accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association. There is also a gift shop, and a recently opened cafe. (For those local, there is an printable coupon on the zoo’s website for 50% off a second item in the cafe.) Currently admission is free, but in the near feature, fees will be charged. Hopefully locals will get a good discount, because it would be a nice place to have some lunch, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

They have several monkeys, but all of them are behind chain link, and with my point and shoot camera it was impossible to get good shots of them. However I did get...

    A black bear...

    Cotton topped marmosets...

    Flamingo’s.. snoozing...

    An emu.... (I think)

An an owl. Owls seem to always have an annoyed look on their faces, no matter what.

The worlds largest birdhouse? One of the things I neglected to take a picture of the plaque beside it telling about it.

Of course what zoo doesn’t have... a petting zoo!

    Complete with....

Random chickens running loose... who would NOT stand still to have their picture taken.

Sheep.... trying to hide behind the tree...

Goats.... wondering where the little girl went who was brushing them.

    And.....

Which had this attached to their pen. (It was one llama and two alpaca’s.)

Yeah... makes me want to reach out and touch someone....

This one was laying there, chewing its cud, and making strange whinning noises that sounded just like a person whinning... at least, until my daughter came over and I said, “Listen to this!”

    Silence......

My daughter gave me that... uh huh right look....

No! Really! I heard it! It was talking to ME!

Word.....I see you smirking under all that hair...

This was on display in the petting zoo section.

And some general scenery from the zoo.

    Wow... those are tall....

The picture of the llama with the hair over his eyes is hilarious. That's what a RCMC llama is suppose to look like.

Alas... Bill is no longer there. I saw somewhere that he died about a year ago, after a long illness and a lung infection. But he was 62 years old when he died, which for a chimp is a pretty long life! They do have a memorial sculpture to him there now.

The little house is a monument from a really big flood in the 80's I believe, and one man died saving a little girl who loved tree houses or something like that. And it was so sad when Bill died! Jane Goodall was here and she visited him like two days before he passed. Poor Bill.

How much did you pay the alpaca to go silent on your daughter? What a mean mommy thing to do.
