    The Beach Bonfire

Special thanks to DisneyIPresume for making this possible. He lives near the beach, and spent the morning camping out next to a fire ring so this would be possible. So... on with the pictures.

While we also had conventional firewood, about half of what I had was scrap wood. On the bright side we learned a lot about what burns quickly, and what takes a bit longer.

The family and I got there somewhere around 1130am, LightMouse was there shortly afterwards. Due to the heat we pretty much set up and then sat down for some fruit.

As you can see it quickly became crowded

Then down to the water for a bit of fun.

    That's right ladies... he's single

I know they were going for the "I'm going to take my shirt off and flash you" pose but I couldn't stop laughing because they were in order of height!

    Re: The Beach Bonfire

    Then the "real funny" started

evidently the beach was alive with the sound of music!

    This was just funny.

While we were goofing off Tinkmomma came down to actually watch the kids... hey we were watching them too... here's mom and baby

    FYI the water is cold

And this pile of seaweed was so interesting that the little one almost tripped when she turned her head to look at it!

Proof that a solid friendship needs little more then sand, water, mermaid barbies and a bucket!

    Re: The Beach Bonfire

To Lightmouse... my son thought you were the coolest! Here is a bit of a backstory. For some reason my son and older daughter kept moving down the beach, and we kept getting them and bringing them back only to see them drift again. Lightmouse and my son decided to play in the water while I tried to keep track of the other two.

Now by this time the fire had been going for a while. It took a small amount of lighter fluid, and half the Sunday paper... but here is the beginning of it.

Then there is a giant gap in the pictures. You see we had the fire going because we thought we were going to cook up some food. We all forgot to bring a grill. DisneyIPresume and I went "shopping" for a grill. We went from RiteAide, to Ace Hardware, to Albertsons, back to Ace Hardware where we finally found what we were looking for. Right when we grabbed the grill DIP's phone wrang... Bruce and his dad had arrived at the beach with a grill! Shortly afterwards Knittingnerd and her beautiful dog Pearl arrived as well... The kids LOVED Pearl

Some night shots of everyone. Notice the SMores... funny thing about those things... we all forgot to pack the supplies for them! So DIP and I ended up going back to Albertsons and getting some SMores stuff...

    Lightmouse, the family, and Bruce

Oddly the kids were more interested in graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate... they didn't quite understand the concept of having it all at once.

The grill that fed us all! Thank you Bruce. Lightmouse, amazing steaks, Bruce amazing turkey burgers!

And I will end it with a shot of the beach bonfires

We had a lot of fun laughing and joking. My younger daughter fell asleep and missed out on the campfire and smores but she had a lot of fun! Sadly a lot of MC's were unable to make it, but I hope to make this a tradition of sorts. Hopefully we can plan another one when it's warm enough to go to the beach again. Thank you to everyone who was able to make it.

Especially that one sitting in the middle!

It was a great time for sure. The weather will be cooling off now, so maybe again in springtime, before Memorial Day when the crowds come back.

And I don't think Techskip mentioned this.

This is Big Corona beach in Corona del Mar, CA. If any of you are vacationing at the DLR for an extended period and want to do something unique during your stay, or if you want to go to a beach while you are here, this is only 20 - 25 minutes away from Disneyland. Not too far for even a half a day.

I do suggest getting there no later than 8am if you want to reserve a fire ring though.

As a boy growing up in Long Island, New York, I remember these special occasions on Memorial Day, Labor Day and days in-between. It's good to see the tradition lives on.

    Thanks for sharing!

DIPresume's family is from Colorado too, Techie!

    Re: The Beach Bonfire

Dang, now that I have seen the pics I really wish I could have made it. My daughter ended up changing her plans the night before the bonfire so I couldn't make it...what can I say I only see my kids 2 times a year if I am lucky!
