What the heck is the meaning of THAT title you ask? ah...more to come...
First, Sunday was the infamous L.A. County fair Wiener Dog Races at the Racetrack.
It was an experience. There were Dachsunds all over! Cute dogs...although I'm more of a Abyssinian cat person than a dog person. But dachsunds are great...if they ever stop barking. Anyway, the races themselves were a real crowd pleaser. Our dog was in heat 4 and to no surprise he didn't run at all. We let him go and he stayed right where he was. But the winning dog did run to me! LMAO!
Arriving with BaileyPups....he practiced real well but out on the track in the actual race...he couldn't see me with his food..so he didn't run.
Bailey frolics in the grass with fair in background
He then made friends with a female...it was a very cute meeting...
Making more friends...both these dogs are also female :P
He then got his number for his race....
Well what do you know! His new Girlfriend was #6 to...in another heat of course :P
While we were waiting we got to see some of the horse races from the INSIDE of the track
Then it was time for our dog to run...or...ha! NOT run...as it turns out..he just stood there... so it was more like "on your mark, get set....STAND THERE AND SNIFF THE GROUND!"
So he didn't even run..but hey! In the heat before his..NONE of the dogs ran! It was hilarious!
After the races we went to take Bailey (the dog) home then returned to spend the rest of the afternoon watching the races
So when we returned from dropping Bailey off home...I went down to the finish line right up against the gate at the track. I wanted to take photos of the last race finishing horse. I did.
THE WINNER OF THE LAST RACE OF THE DAY....
But then...then it turned into something from Animals Gone WILD! or something like that!
When the jockeys were trotting their horses back, from what I saw, one horse kinda ran into the inside track rail..the jockey jumped off the horse then the horse went CHARGING for the crowd!!!! He ran in a direction towards the crowd about 10 feet from me. The horse saw the gate, jumped it and that is all I saw from ground level.
Now here is where my heart pretty much stopped. Just before this last race and before this all happened, my dad and sleeping son walked in that direction the horse charged and my dad was gonna sit down while my son was sleeping in his stroller. So, this horse charged IN THE DIRECTION where I thought my father and sleeping son to be. I was desperately trying to find them after the horse ran for the crowd. I ran right towards the commotion, yelling my fathers name nothing..I looking frantically around I see the horse on the ground, I see an elderly man on the ground and woman sitting on the ground I don't see my father or son then I saw him, whew! I don't think I've ever been that scared in my LIFE!
My mother and sister were in the grand stands right above and behind me. They saw it all from a bird's eye view and according to them........
When the horse jumped the gate, his back legs didn't make it so he fell head first into the cement and knocked himself out. If the horse hadn’t knocked out, he was in the direction to run thru the crowd, out the race track gates and INTO THE FAIR GROUNDS! It could have been a lot worse.
My mother...thought I got hit by the horse because all she said she remembered was that I was down there at the front track gate...where the horse ran. But no...I was about 10 feet away...but ONLY 10 feet. So here I thought MY son was stomped by the horse and here my mother thought HER daughter was stomped by a horse...!!!
When I finally found my father and son (who was still sleeping) they had revived the horse, who, of course, was spooked with all the people gathering around, and proceeded to try to charge the crowd again. Here are my shots of them escorting the horse out just after they revived him and a total of about 6 or 7 men holding onto the horse to try and get him out of there:
In the first picture there....the horse had JUST been revived and stood on his feet but started to charge again...see the people running! I snapped these as my father and I were walking out of the way pushing my son's stroller...he slept through the whole thing!
So wow! I have been trying to find some news on how the three injured people were. One man was on the ground, looked pretty bad and there were two injured females...one looked like her leg got smashed and a young girl about 11 years old had a gash in her elbow.
I also wonder about the future of the horse and if the jockey did anything to spook him. But no news.
Can you believe all that!?!?!
