Our trip was finally here. After months of planning, anticipation and changes it was finally here.
We flew out of LAX at 12:45 and got into PHL at about 8:30. The flight wasnít too bad, a few bumps but nothing major. Watched a couple of movies on the DVD player and played some DS.
No problem getting to our rental car. Started our drive towards Allentown at about 9:00.
It wasnít too long until we ran into a theme for the weekend. Construction on the PA Turnpike. Iím guessing this is a pretty normal thing. It wasnít that big of a deal, we just made sure we gave ourselves plenty of time to get where we were going.
Checked into our Hotel (Holiday Inn Express at Dorney) with no problem. Pretty nice hotel with a nice view of Dorney. Since we hadnít eaten since lunch, and Carabbas was closed we went through the Wendyís drive through. Back to the hotel, ate, showered and crashed at about 1:00am.
Day Two Ė HersheyPark and Chocolate World
We woke up at about 8:30 and were ready to go about 9:45. We wanted to give ourselves plenty of time due to traffic and possibly get something to eat. Traffic was kind of bad, but not too bad. We made it to Hershey at about 12:00. The problem was, HersheyPark didnít open until 5:00. So we basically had 5 hours to kill.
This is a very cool place. They have the Factory Tour, huge stores, Kit Kat Cafť and a 3D show. This is all very cool.
First up was the Factory Tour. Itís kind of like a Chocolate Dark ride through the Hershey Factory (not the real one). I thought it was very well done, and itís free so thatís even better.
We wanted to go eat at Tudor Grill outside of HersheyPark but it wasnít open, Iím assuming because the park wasnít. No biggie, we just ate at Kit Kat Cafť. Good food, Kristi had a Turkey Sandwich (with bread) and I had an Italian. Both were very good.
At this point it was only about 1:30 so we decided to do the Hershey Trolley tour. Basically itís a bus tour of the town of Hershey. Very cool. We learned a lot, got to see the town, the Hershey Hotel, Hershey Gardens, etc.
Back to Chocolate World we decided to drive back out to the Gardens since it was so close. We drive up and see that itís $7 to go inside. They looked nice, but not THAT nice. So we did it the Joey way and peeked through the fence and took pictures.
It was about 2:30 at this point so we headed back to Chocolate World to do the last thing there, the BIG 3D show. This was actually very cool. We sat too close to the front though and it did get a little hard to watch being so close.
Overall we both loved chocolate world. Everywhere you go they give you free samples. Itís awesome. Kristi and I had chocolate for the first time in awhile and it was VERY good.
I canít wait to come back here with the kids next year.
It was about 4:00 when we decided just to go hang out at the entrance to Hershey to wait for the park to open.
