Las Vegas July 29th to August 1st

    Hi Everyone,
My friend is flying in a couple of weeks from Memphis, TN on Wed. July 29th. I am picking her up from the airport around 730pm in the evening, and driving straight to Las Vegas. I only have a few more weeks to get our rooms booked, does anyone know of a good website to search for good deals on rooms? I've looked at Vegas.com and they're still pretty pricey. I would like to stay on the strip if possible, I am sure you can still get really good deals regardless of where the location of the hotel is. If anyone can be of any help that'd be greatly appreciated as always. Thank You

Expedia, Travelocity.... Any travel agency site has package deals that would come in handy for trying to find a cheap(er) room.

Do you have a preference on where you want to stay?

I've only been to Ballys and that was really nice. I am looking at these few places, I know some dont have great reviews but they catch my eye.
    Caesars Palace
    MGM Grand
    Luxor
    Hard Rock Hotel Casino

Perhaps some people have different perfences they'd like to share?

Hard Rock is pretty far off the strip so I would suggest not staying there (they're usually pricier anyway right?)

I don't think you should worry about the hotel if money is the issue. It's all about being there. Pick something on the strip and you'll be just fine.

Yeah that one seems like fun. I need to look into this stuff this weekend. Thanks for the input. I know Hard Rock would be extremely expensive. I am really looking into the MGM or luxor

If you feel like taking a chance try priceline "negotiator". You can pick an area (like "the Strip"), pick how many stars and then set your price (start way low). You have to commit to it before you know what hotel you are at, but if you pick enough stars, and they accept your price, it should be worth the risk. You are far enough out that if no one accepts a low ball bid you can still find another hotel. (I had a great experience last month where I got a room at the Hyatt on Union Square in San Francisco for $70...)

If that doesn't work I've heard Excalibur is practically giving rooms away.

I usually go that same week and I'm currently booked at Luxor.

Are you planning on doing a lot of gambling? If so I would suggest you book with the hotel instead of going to a third party. You can get discounts and comps on your room when you do that, if you gamble enough money.

I suggest you go to each individual casinos website and sign their guestbook. You will be put on their e mail list and you can get awesome deals from that. I just got one from the Monte Carlo for that week with $39 room rates.

If you have Facebook you can also become a fan of the casinos and they post some good offers on there too.

I know that usually people tell you to go to Priceline and Hotwire for good rates, and while this is normally the case, it isn't so for Vegas. In fact, there have been times in which I pulled up Priceline and they were actually charging more for a room than the actual casino website was. The official websites prices fluctuate on a daily basis while third party websites only get one flat rate and thats it.

I'm going to PM you with some good websites that I use to plan my trip.

^Monte Carlo is...ugh.....I suggest Luxor, but a pyramid room or else it isn't the same.

Climb Mt. Charleston (though in this heat it may take some doing), go see Red Rock Canyon...there's some okay outlet mall shopping including the Disney Character Warehouse. Don't miss the Venetian and Palazzo, Wynn and Encore, the fountains at Bellagio, Fashion Show Mall, or the waterfall show at the Wynn.

If you want to see shows, book your tickets as far ahead as possible. There are also good 1/2 price ticket booths that sell tickets to good shows at a nice discount on the day of the show. Just mind that you should do that one early.
