Legoland Soon To Announce 5 Acre Waterpark Expansion

Legoland builds on success with family fun - SignOnSanDiego.com
    ^...........^.............^
    San Diago Union Tribune site

In terms of attendance, 2008 was a banner year for Legoland California in Carlsbad. According to their internal stats, the theme park is claiming 2009 as another record breaking year.

As a result of all of this good news (in the toughest of economic times I might add) they are posed to announce some big news come January 8th. At that time, the public will be informed of the details surrounding a 5 acre waterpark expansion for 2010! As if the Sea Life Aquarium addition in 2008 wasn't enough to get me excited!

Some Micechatters have been highly cynical toward the notion of a Disneyland Resort waterpark. Knott's has one, as does Magic Mountain.. and now Legoland. It's only a matter of time before Seaworld and Universal each have one as well. Disney builds the best.. and has even announced it's intention to build one at DLR a few years ago. Disney was the first theme park to have waterparks in the Orlando area.

Why is it that some MCers seem to desire for our resort to be a "Johnny come lately".. or "miss the boat" all together? The weather has been just fine to keep the water parks going well at nearby competing parks.

Well, now that I've got that off my chest.. Go Legoland! Your plans for a new waterpark rock!

Great. More people on the road when I go home now.

I work right by there and have to deal with the outbound traffic when they close. Not fun.

Look at the bright side, you can stop there after work for some relief during those hot summer days. You could really put an AP to good use. Don't forget the sunscreen!

5 acres??? That's enough for a kids play area and maybe a couple of slides. This is 1/3 of the size of Hurricane Harbor or Soak City, neither of which are very big themselves.

At least it's a new waterpark. Like I said, Disney's the best. A DLR park with the size and scope of Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach would clean up on the competition, big time.

We have been Ambassador (lifetime) AP'ers at LL since their first year in operation.

They have consistently improved the Park each year. It is also one of the cleanest Parks that we visit.

I yearn for the day that I am 80 years old and still able to get inside the Park for a little fun!

You lucky ducky, PirateMickey! What a privelege it is being Ambassador AP'ers. I'll bet the new Pirate Shores area is a blast.. for adults and kids alike. The pictures I've seen look colorful, wet and fun...

As mention in Post #1, I'm also impressed with the Sea Life Aquarium. Legoland went all out to ensure that kids and adults alike have optimal and unique ocean life viewing oportunities...

For some reason I feel it will be very underwhelming.

Most Waterparks are, IE Aqautica, Soak City,,

We will see how this goes. I am optimistic, I dont think it would a seperated ticketed venue, maybe a part of the new hotel.

I can see SeaWorld building a water park. I can't see Universal building one (they still very much need the studio lot and if there is anything else they should expand first, its the theme park itself).

Universal will likely always keep the studio lot. They have always been creative and resourceful. They will figure out a way to expand the themepark, the studio lot.. plus expand their property to accomodate a waterpark. It might be said that they are "Transformers".

A friend of mine said he had some kid's turd float down with him on a waterslide in San Dimas. And he says that when he reported it, they fished it out of the pool and that was it, didn't drain the water or anything.

The story was disgusting enough to make me swear off water parks from that point on.

Sounds like your friend had a really crappy day at a waterpark. Was the name of the park, "Lumberjack Logrolling Waters".
