I am smoking the natural fumes of life... nothing beats being high... on life!

I am glad it isnt cancelled... I thought you were calling upon us to boycott the park or something... I would boycott it the park on any other instance... but not for Haunt! The thing is that you would have to kill me first before I miss out on Haunt.

Sadly Cedar fair knows this and no matter how much we boycott the park or decide not to support them and their decisions... they know they have the upper hand because no one can resist Haunt... In fact I was reading somewhere that Knotts gets about half its yearly revenue off Haunt alone!

But the whole Micechat Haunt meet is becoming a tradition like all the other major events here on Micechat... especially with you and your haunted sword of destiny!

Not to mention, with my Disneyland pass, I have a means to make the Haunt meet and the Disneyland meet the next day Oh and Gay Days in October

Still... no matter how you say it, Cedar Fair still has has with Haunt! You cant deny that.

I agree. When I went to Haunt last year, that was my first time and I was blown away!

as an ex employee of KBF it was well known that the family was losing money and attendance was low,,,really low. im 50-50 on Cedar Fair's ownership..i always said they needed to put better thrill rides and lose the family part to make a profit way before CF even bought the park back in 90-91 and thats what they did....but they also were lacking in the entertainment area...seems like tho lately they are pushing for more entertainment which is a great thing for my buddies still over there..but my opinion if the family never sold it they would have eventually closed down..any anyone who misses the haunted shack never worked it lol my fellow old shack workers may have but i dont one bit lol

Re: Sad Day For Knott's Berry Farm

I think Ghostrider was the biggest mistake. It completely changed the skyline, made formerly free areas a part of the park, tore out some of the best areas of the resort, created a ton of noise in a previously pristine area, and only added one ride (which is practically unride-able with all the rattling it does). I am *really* torn about Silver Bullet, Sierra Sidewinder and Pony Express because although they are some of my favorite rollercoasters in the world, they completely changed the area for the worse.

Replacing the Shooting Gallery with a Panda Express and the Haunted Shack with a super swing was just plain wrong. If they had left these attractions alone, had never built Ghostrider and left the Soapbox Racers alone, Knott's would be a MUCH better place today. I absolutely LOVED Reflection Lake, but Sierra Sidewinder and Silver Bullet are just too much fun. And as much as I hate to see the Boothill Graveyard become a sideshow shell of the major attraction it once was, Pony Express is just too damned fun too.

Does anyone remember Mott's Miniatures? That was a really cool place to visit, especially during Christmas time. I remember they used the Birdcage Theater to do a rendition of "A Christmas Carol" during that time too. There were candles that you could dip and color on your own and watch cakes being decorated in a bakery window. And attractions that are overlooked today were *major* attractions back in the day, like Sad Eye Joe, Boothill, the peak-ins, panning for gold, and the California Marketplace. I mean, these were the reasons why you went to Knott's Berry Farm in the first place in the pre-1990's. Today they're just appendages left over from a by-gone era, but I still visit them just to keep the true Knott's Berry Farm spirit alive.

It's just weird today to think that Knott's Berry Farm once competed with Disneyland. Today it's competition is more with the likes of Magic Mountain, but a long time ago, Knott's contained imagination that rivaled the best of what Disney could offer.

Re: Sad Day For Knott's Berry Farm

I think Cedar Fair's mistake was that they thought they could run Knott's the way they ran their other parks. They did not understand the Southern California market. A smaller version of a coaster that already exists at one of their other parks is not going to attract visitors when you have Disney and Universal opening big budget, E-ticket attractions and Magic Mountain opening record shattering and first of its kind coasters nearby. Additionally, Knott's has not added anything to attract a family audience in recent years aside from a few Snoopy themed flat rides. I'm pretty sad that they got rid of Reflection Lake as it was one of the nicer areas of any theme park.

I do think the Cedar Fair can run Knott's well. They're just not used to having a part with quite as much history and atmosphere, but they do have a reputation for well maintained parks. They just need to branch out and not rely so much on thrill ride. Even Six Flags has been reaching out to families. I am glad Cedar Fair is staying as opposed to the group that wanted to buy them, Apollo, which is known mostly for AMC Theaters, Harrah's Casinos, and Norwegian Cruise Line. I don't know much about NCL, but I do know that AMC and Harrah's do not have the best reputations. I think a smart move for Cedar Fair to make is to try and capitalize on the local market. I've seen so many website comment about the return of the Catawampus. Now imagine if they announced the return of the Soapbox Racers.

I was at Knott's recently. The park felt like an episode of Cops just waiting for some gang violence to happen.

I wish they would too and let Tony Baxter be in charge of WDI there. He is a huge Knott's fan as well.

Same here. I also think they did a great job with Sierra Sidewinder. But I hate Pony Express.
