Aptos, Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz Beach BoardWalk

Piratemunkee and I had finally gotten the chance to return to our home, Aptos/Santa Cruz. This trip was very special since my dad was inducted into the Aptos High School Sports Foundation Hall of Fame. He finally got kudos for all of his hard work of the last 34 yrs. Our destination was condo on the beach. It was great to be back where I grew up and spent the majority of my life. I only wish we had longer than 4 days.

We were in the pink one that had three stories. My mom wanted a mini family vacation, so my parents rented this little beauty.

The rental property was one of the many that are listed through (shameless plug)

Our daily view consisted of the beach, seagulls, and the occasional seal.

    Piratemunkee in a quiet moment

The Cement Ship at Seacliff State Beach, Aptos. I used to work at the Safeway that is down the road. This is where I used to take my lunch break and just walk.

Ever since we've moved, I haven't been able to find a Chinese restaurant that measured up to The Panda Inn, at the Rio Del Mar Shopping Center, Aptos. They are a little pricey but it is very much worth it.

#49 lunch special. Sweet and Sour Chicken with fried rice. Yummy! I was in heaven.

Later that evening we got ready to attend the banquet to induct the Hall of Fame recipients. This was held at the Seascape Golf Course.

    Piratemunkee and I

    The inductees

My paparazzi shot of the inductees

My dad, Bobby Salazar, finally being inducted in after years of hard, tireless work.

We also had to visit my high school. I grew up living on campus. Oh the memories.

Aptos High School, home of the Mighty Mariners.

I do not see any schools in SoCal that have this many trees. I miss all the trees.

During our visit, we went to the neighborhood were Piratemunkee and I used to live. Pleasure Point. This is what we moved away from

Since the Munkee and I love horror films, we had to drive by the house that inspired Alfred Hitchcock's movie Psycho. Now it is a retirement villa. Did I forget to mention that the place is haunted and a serial killer once lived there.

The Munkee has been craving fresh raw oysters on the half shell, ever since we entered the area. Next stop the Santa Cruz Wharf.

    To be continued...

Re: Aptos, Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz Beach BoardWalk

    Thanks Jenn and Dopey Rex.

    Now on with the show...

Looking towards Steamers Lane and the Santa Cruz Lighthouse.

Looking out towards the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

In all my life, I have never seen Sea Lions do this

They were just floating in a mass. They weren't looking for food. It was like they just decided to take a siesta.

This is how you usually find the Sea Lions

On our last full day we decided to hit the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

Yah, we got there a bit early.

Anybody notice this place yet? Its where they filmed The Lost Boys.

    This is where I got a hole-in-one.

They still have theirs, but it was down due to high winds.

The only one brave enough to ride.

    The Merry-Go-Round

On this ride, there are brass rings that you try to toss in the clowns mouth. If you make it in, his eye light up and he make some sounds.

    A California land mark.

As we meandered further along, Piratemunkee spotted a cart that was selling deep fried Twinkies and Oreo's. Of course he had to try them

    Twinkies and Oreo's

    The first fried bite

This munkee likes anything fried. I gotta admit that I did have a bite of each. It was meh. I don't like Twinkies or Oreo's, but I try.

The San Lorenzo River end of the Boardwalk

    The Loggers Revenge

And my favorite little ride, The Cave Train

The Munkee and I ready to see the cave people.

    Bear!

After we rode the Cave Train we wanted to head back to Marini's for treats. But on the way there, we got side-tracked with the size of their corn dogs. Remember when DL had bigger corn dogs

Now off to the Willie Wonka of the Boardwalk.

The cotton candy machine that they still use. There is nothing better than fresh cotton candy.

Making fresh salt water taffy the same since 1915.

Behold, the glory of candy, candy, candy! It look so pretty

And this little bute for my bacon lover friends

Chocolate covered bacon. For the record, I like the milk chocolate one. The dark was okay. Piratemunkee was in hog heaven.

Look at the size of that lollie.

Since the weather was getting bad we decided to call it a day. After all, we had a long drive ahead of us on the next day. We can't wait till we can head back, but for now it was nice to see all the things that we've missed.

Great TR. This is all just up the street but it's still always interesting to see others' experiences, and even learn about a new thing or two.

Great TR! And congrats to your dad
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...
