    Frolicking in my backyard!

Well not exactly my back yard. But my neighbourhood at least.

Last weekend I had a friend from Arizona who use to live next door come for a visit. He and his wife are adopting two boys, and he wanted to bring them over for a boys weekend out, and show them where he grew up. I had been wanting to get out and get some pictures of the spring wildflowers that are currently in bloom, so it was a win win for all of us!

Now my camera is just a little point and shoot, and I don’t have a view finder, and the LCD screen is pretty much useless in bright sun, so I take a lot of faith pictures. I point the camera in a directions and I have faith that I’ll get a picture of something.

We started out early Saturday morning after breakfast, headed for the hills behind our house for some four wheeling, boonie hoping adventure!

The back side of Big Bear. More or less...

    My little town...

We weren’t the only ones enjoying the beautiful day!

I just took this one because I thought it was “artsy.”

Bug spots on the windshield optional.

Are you sure this is a road?

Ah to be young and have enough energy to climb steep hills...

Time for Dad to go rescue them!

You think the Matterhorn is rough? Try this road in and old Chevy Blazer!

We went back to the house and grabbed some lunch then headed for...

Joshua Tree National Monument... I mean National Park! (To us old timers, it will always be “The Monument.”)

    Lots of... rocks.

What amazes me with formations like this, is that has many earthquakes as we have in SoCal that this is still balanced this way.

So that's what it looks like in your little corner of the world. I absolutely love the flowers. Also, you do pretty well with your "little point and shoot". That's the way I take pictures as well.

Thank you everyone for the comments so far! I'll toss out a few more before I head out to fix dinner!

    A desert scene.

The boys doing their mountain goat impression.

Giant Tortoise shell, pterodactyl dropping or alien life form... you decide.

And of course what trip to the desert is complete without a lizard!

    Some blooming cactus.

Yes, that dark spot on the rock, is another lizard.

There are a lot of strange formations in the rocks, both natural and made by Native Americans who lived in the area.

Thanks Lu! Thank goodness I don't have to do yard work on all of it.

Since it was a beautiful day, the park was pretty busy. We get visitors from all over the world who come to see the desert up close.

Joshua Tree National Park is a popular place for rock climbers, and we saw many of them out that day.

    Oh look! Another lizard!

Throughout the park there are many places where early Native Americans and settlers made their mark. There are places in the park where you can even see petroglyphs, but we didn't go to any of those sites that day.

Oh wow, Pengy! It's all so pretty! I'm jealous. I think I'd spend all my time out there wandering.

    And what cute little lizards!

    Re: Frolicking in my backyard!

You know living right next to a National Park, I guess I take it for granted and really don't appreciate it as much as I probably should. Thats why its kind of nice when I have "company" and can play tourist in my own world.

    Ok, time to finish up!

The last stop of the day was Barker Dam. Barker Dam is a man made reservoir that was used to water cattle back in the early 1900’s.

And while this would of made for a great photo op, by this time I was tired from the day and didn’t feel like climbing over any more rocks. So I sat this trek out while the youngins’ went up there. Besides... I've been up there before, and since I'm right next door... I'll make it back out there again someday!

Thanks for having a look everyone!!
