    Smile Jurassic Forest

Hi, I was just wanting to share some pictures from a new 'park' that opened up in my area (Edmonton, AB Canada).

On July 30th Jurassic Forest opened - while still missing some elements over all it looks to have some promise.

Basically it is a 'zoo' of different kinds of animatronic full scale dinosaurs. They had about 32 dinosaurs on hand for opening day (obviously some missing as empty display areas where evident), but overall the area was well done and fairly informative with signs about each dino species as well as information about plants/animals that are found in the area today.

Website can be found here: Edmonton Alberta Prehistoric Dinosaur Park | Jurassic Forest Anyways, on to some of the pictures.

Main gate (still missing some signage):

How is the movement? Is it a half hour loop of movements? 15 minutes? an hour? anything on rollers so they appear to "walk around"?

I likely won't have the chance to go for a long time but if I was able to I'd take the kids to see this! Thank you in advance for sharing.

The movement was fairly smooth (not harsh). They are all controlled by motion sensors so are activated by people in the area. None of them actually 'walked' but it looked like a few of the ones not installed as yet may (looked like there was a moving platform). Basic movement (`arms`, mouths, eyes, head, tails and is some cases the necks and sails on the backs).

    Cheers,

This is great! Thanks for sharing with us. I was JUST in Alberta last week....Waterton/Glacier and Prince of Whales Hotel. I had a super time, and saw lots of wildlife. Although, none like you saw.

Interesting. I see they copied the Calgary Zoo. The zoo added animatronic dinosaurs to their prehistoric park this past winter. Up to the installation last winter, the park featured static dinosaur statues. The majority of the dinos have a security sensor that you walk by and it turns the dino on. Some of the dinosaurs you can 'control' as well - they have a control box with buttons that allow you to move the various parts of the body.

I did a quick Alberta roadtrip to visit with some friends last month so I'll post my Alberta trip report in the next few days.

Just to answer - yes there is a small gift shop (and facilities) - all the usual dino stuff you see at toy stores, some promo stuff. They also have a small food area with a a few coin operated riding dinos (sorry, no pictures or this area). I am sure there will be more in the future as this was opening day and there was a few other areas/building that where still being developed.

Here is the only picture I have of the gift shop (I know, better documentation next time)

They also had a fairly large sand box for the little ones which included a 'dig site' where they had buried some bones that they can uncover:
