Hershey, PA - Chocolate World, Hersheypark, and ZooAmerica

    8/5/2010 - Hershey, PA

The parking tram (look Ma, no doors):

    First stop, Hershey's Chocolate World:

The only thing I did here was ride "Hershey's Great American Chocolate Tour". It's sort of a substitute factory tour since they don't give real factory tours. You pass by mock-ups of machinery as they explain the chocolate making process...and they have singing cows, in a real factory, you don't get singing cows.

    The backside of cows:

Great stuff so far Ron. We absolutely LOVED Hersheypark/Chocolate World when we were there in 2005.

Then, on to Hersheypark next door. Tudor Square is an area of shops just outside the gate.

The statue of founder Milton S. Hershey in Founder's Circle:

Hersheypark is a nice amusement park, but for those of us used to Disney parks, it is not up to Disney standards. The rides are mostly run-of-the-mill amusement park rides with a few modern thrill rides scattered about. Theming is minimal as you often have to check signs and maps just to figure out what section you are in, with the exception being "the Boardwalk" area which does give you the feeling of being at a seaside resort.

    Look, a wave swinger:

The Monorail is a good way to get a look around the park. Oh, and by the way, that sign to the right of the ride entrance with the different candy brands: outside the park gates is a measuring area with different pillars, each with a different candy brand and height mark. You just find which mark your child is taller than and remember the associated candy, then at each ride there is a list of brands and if your brand is on it you can ride that ride.

The Monorail passes in front of the Hershey factory:

Note the street lights shaped like Hershey's Kisses, some wrapped, some unwrapped:

The silos are filled with cocoa beans:

Ummmm.... chocolate.... As a big fan of chocolate, someday I hope to go there. In the mean time, thanks for the pics so I can see what I'm missing!

The rides are not "run of the mill", they are "classic". Get the lingo right!
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

Then over to ZooAmerica. Zoo admission is included with park admission. There is a bridge connecting the two, so you can walk right over from the park, just make sure you get you hand stamped so you can get back. ZooAmerica is a small zoo that specializes in North American wildlife.

Then back over to the park; just in time to see the "characters" come out:

Of course, I had to get a picture with the Hershey Bar:

After that, I put the camera in the locker to ride some rides where it would get in the way. They don't seem to have any pouches to hold small items like some of the Disney rides do, though some rides have drop areas where you can leave your stuff if you want to risk it just laying there.

After a few rides, dinner, and souvenir shopping, I had to leave for the long drive back to Philadelphia, so I didn't get to see the park at night.
