Pacific Northwest MouseMeet 2010

Hi everyone.

It is time again for another trip report from the Pacific Northwest. This time some of us attended the Pacific Northwest MouseMeet. This event is in its 2nd year and it just keeps getting better. So let's get this report started.

I took the ferry across the Puget Sound. In this picture you can see Mount Rainer and Seattle way to the south.







This picture was taken on the car deck.





At the convention center I was one of the first to arrive. Here is the sign for the meet. It sold out again.





Then event organizer had a few things to say to the crowd before the rope drop.



There were several displays to look at. Including one of Disneyland trains.



A WDW Mr Toad car.



A Pirates of the Carribbean display which included this fan made piece.



But the best was probably this one. Yep, Town Square, made of LEGOs.



Firehouse.










Also they had a replica of Mickey's House.



And the Haunted Mansion.

The tables had paper decorations on them. This is just a couple of them.





You can see the Mansion in this picture. More importantly you can see the first dole whip of the day. That is right, they had the actual Dole Whip there. It is the first Dole Whip I have had in years.



Here is a picture from the main room.



There were several vendors there with Disney music, collectibles, pins, statues and more. There were also raffles for Disney collectibles. They raised over $5000 for charities.

There were quite a few guests at the meet. The 501st - Garrison Titan was there.

Margaret Kerry. She was the keynote speaker last year. I think she could give Betty White a run for her money.



Don again, with Disney author Jeff Kurtti.


WDW Magic podcaster Lou Mongello with Disney Legend and Imagineer Bob Gurr.



Lou interviewed Bob Gurr about his life and time with Disney. He also took questions from the audience. I am proud to say that Tinkermonkey Jr. stumped Gurr with a simple question that apparently he has never been asked before. She asked "What was your biggest challenge?"

After thinking about it he said it was the pirate ship that sinks at the Treasure Island hotel in Vegas.

Very cool! I wish I could have been there to meet Ms. Kerry and Mr. Gurr. That would have been right up there with when we met Marty Sklar.

I was very impressed with the event. Lots of nice little touches, like re-naming the theaters to match those at the DLR, using Disney music as atmosphere, which evoked memories of being there, etc.

I particularly liked the "Pacific Northwest MouseMeet in 3D" sign, copying what we see in MuppetVision, held into the audience on a long stick. Ah, low-tech tributes!

Jeff Kurtii was great. Not only did he donate the art of Bugs Life & Mulan books, but spent pretty much all day signing them. He was very friendly and personable. He also did an overview of the Walt Disney Family Museum.

Bob Gurr was of course the highlight. He was also very gracious and friendly, signing autographs for everyone who wanted. It was interesting that the one question he declined to answer was how much Walt Disney meant to him and how it affected him when he died. It seemed like it was still a subject too painful to talk about, so many years later, which tells you something about the kind of person Walt was.

It was a delight to meet several MiceChatters I hadn't before, and put some more faces to screen names. Everyone was friendly and delightful, which I've come to learn is typical of the MiceChat community.

They are. Also visiting Lego Disneyland were several characters from Prince of Persia, Indiana Jones and Spongebob Squarepants.

Ok loot time.

First the pins. To see larger pictures you will want to visit the recent pin acquistion thread.



Then I bought a couple new shirts at the Disneystore afterwards.



Another cool thing was meeting Jeff Kurtti, author of books like the Art of Disneyland.



Not only did he sign it, but Disney Legend Bob Gurr signed too.



Jeff Kurtti also signed some other books for me, most notably "The Art of Mulan". Why is this notable? Because he donated 250 copies of his books Art of Mulan and Art of Bug's Life to the PNWMM to be given away to attendees. That is right, with the price of admission I got a $60 book for free.



Oh I also got this poster.

It was so great to get those books, and depending on how you look at it, its like getting free admission. We also got a few pins, and played a pin game. Oh, and the TS3 poster just for buying charity raffle tickets. They also let my Son take one of the paper castles that was on one of the tables, and an assortment of Mickey ballons, just like the ones from the Park. It was definatly a good day for free loot. I like how you had Bob Gurr sign on a pic of HIS fire truck, very nice.

What a great event. You had 2 Disney legends plus free loot. Looks well worth the ferry ride and the cost.

Its totally worth the schlep, you guys! Its a three and a half hour drive for us and we wouldnt blink an eye.

Thanks for posting your photos Anthony! This was my first time at the PNWMM and I had a great time listening to the speakers and meeting other Mice Chatters.
