    Knott's Berry Farm announces WindSeeker

    Knott's Mobile

WindSeeker will be designed and manufactured by Mondial, a company based in the Netherlands that has been creating thrill rides for the amusement park industry since 1987. Mondial is known for their innovative and unique rides and maintains the highest standards in regards to quality and safety.

WindSeeker will feature 32, 2-person gondolas that will ascend to a height of 301 feet. Once it has reached the top of the tower, WindSeeker will spread it’s metal arms swinging riders for a 60 second flight at a 45 degree angle at a speed of 8 rotations per minute.

“Due to the long airtime, riders will experience a spectacular sense of weightlessness. This, combined with the fact that riders legs will be unrestrained, will create a sense of exhilaration which will enhance the feeling of free flight,” said Knott’s General Manager, Marty Keithley.

WindSeeker will be located at the current site of Knott’s Sky Cabin. Groundbreaking for WindSeeker is scheduled for fall of 2010 with completion expected by summer 2011.

I just started a thread on this. But this one is better. Feel free to merge mine with this or just close it.

Anyway. A million bucks wouldn't be enough to get me to ride this!

Count me in! I'll be there and thrilled to ride it. Only eight rotations per minute? I hope that'll be fast enough for me.

I do hope the big, neon landmark "K" at the top of the tower is restored. It's been dark for far too long. Restore the neon "K"!

Sounds like 4 Cedar Fair parks are getting the same ride. Knotts, Cedar Point, King's Island and Canada's wonderland.

King's Island is announcing theirs today at 2pm est. Everyone has been saying WindSeeker and looks like its true.

Not sure how I feel about it. If it's higher than Diamondback at KI (like they are saying), and that's too high for me as is, than no thanks.

Just wonder where they might put it at KI.....

    Nice!

It looks like an Americanized version of the popular European Starflyers.

Except this one will have steel arms and restraints instead of simple chains and plastic seats. Very good!

I envisions barf flying at high altitudes. I'd watch out below after this is spinning.
I was hoping for an announcement of the Peanuts Playhouse replacement but, alas, not meant to be.

So my question is, are they reusing the current tower, or will be tearing it down and building a new one? I didn't think the Skytower was 301 feet, so it seems to be the latter. Can anyone confirm?
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

Sky Tower is roughly 200 feet, it will be an entirely new tower. I can't see them just adding onto the existing tower especially when they are building 3 other exact rides at other parks.

Re: Knott's Berry Farm announces WindSeeker

I am not sure how I feel about this one! On the plus... At next years Haunt, this will probably be a must ride after we finish all the mazes, but they took out a classic ride on the sky cabin and are replacing it with swings loaded onto a 300 foot tall tower... Basically now they are adding in 2 towers over 300 feet... But at least on the plus, I could ride this one since I vowed never to ride Supreme Scream again because drops at 300+ feet are not my thing, this looks to be thrilling for people with fears of heights, yet family friendly enough for anyone of proper height! And people always wanted the Sky Jump back, well I guess this confirmed we arent ever going to see the Sky Jump return, but this seems to be the next best thing

I will take this ride over a return of the Sky Jump and all qualms aside about Knotts adding in more steel and taking out classics, this one is ok because it fits, it takes up I assume the same footprint the Sky Jump did, and it seems they are probably listening to our complaints by adding something more modern and thrilling but building vertical, rather than horizontal which forces them to take out classic charm. I think this is a step in the right direction, although I will miss the sky cabin, but this seems a little more like the same concept, instead you are just sitting open and free swinging in the sky!

not thrilled... plenty in that park that could use attention before they go building another thrill ride.

How fun! I wished the SSS went up higher. I'm a big scaredy cat when it comes to heights, but this ride looks like fun. Thanks for sharing the link.
