    Bodie Ghost Town, California

I've been to the Ghost Town at Knott's Berry Farm hundreds of times but never made it up the 395 to Bodie, a real ghost town, until now.

My other half and I hit Manzanar, Mono Lake, Mammoth and Lone Pine along the way, but it was Bodie that really captured my imagination. We will most definitely return to see this ghost town again. It was amazing.

Here are a few photos to share I can hardly believe such a time warp exists.

I wonder if Walter Knott found inspiration here for his Ghost Town and its myriad peek-ins. At Bodie, guests can peer through the windows of the abandoned homes and businesses to see the remains of the remains.

That place is really great isn't it? Its kind of bizarre that this little town is just sitting there stuck in time. Nice photos!!! thanks for posting.

that is cool! I'm fascinated by "ghost" buildings. I saw alot on our trip and thought it'd be really cool to travel the country checking out abandoned buildings you'd find along the way.

I wonder what the story is with this place?

That place is amazing. Did you take any of the tours? Some of the rangers have some incredible ghost stories to tell. There are also a bunch on the web you can find. It's such a surreal and eerily quiet place.

I went there once, it was pretty cool. I enjoyed shooting a roll of black and white film, too.

Sadly, we missed out on the guided mine tour while in Bodie, but we did stop in front of the general store to hear the concise history of the place. Fascinating!

    Re: Bodie Ghost Town, California

I've always wanted to visit Bodie. Looks cool! I remember a story I heard about it in an atlas, of all places. It apparently had a reputation of being a very tough town. A young girl found out her family was moving there, and was overheard praying, "Good bye, God, I'm going to Bodie." But the town of Bodie caught wind of her quote, and, trying to turn around some of their negative publicity, claimed she had said, "Good! By God, I'm going to Bodie!"

Even if it's not true, it's a good yarn.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

Ha! I love it. Yes, the importance of punctuation can never be understated.
