Thirth Largest Fountain Show Premier AQUANURA (Efteling, Holland)

It's almost there! The 3th biggest European Theme park the Efteling (Holland) will celebrate it's 60th birthday today. And to celebrate it they will launch there new Fountain show Aquanura. Aquanura will be the 3th largest fountain show in the world and therefor will beat DCA's World of Color.

Aquanura will be The Efteling's (liquid) firework show and will end your day at the park. The Efteling also plans on holding small shows during the day. Aquanura will loosely follow the story of the Frog Prince (one of the fairy tales that has been in The Efteling's Fantasy Forest since day 1) It will also feature the music from different ride's in the park. The show also will include fire. There will be NO water screens so just pure water and fire.

Wow it looks fantastic! Enjoy your new water!

Aquanura will be the 3th largest fountain show in the world and therefor will beat DCA's World of Color.

Having seen World of Color and assuming that the giant circle in the construction photo is the fountain area, it looks significantly smaller than WOC. But they tend to leave Disney related things out of the mix when making comparisons, and this show still looks amazing.

^ I thought so too, but when looking at bird eye view pictures it looks almost the same size WOC is wider though. Aquanura will be 360 viewable.

UPDATE!

Just saw the show and loved it. It's not as creative as WOC which I had hoped, but I liked it better than Dubai and Las Vegas! And being a WET production and having a grid like structure I'm sure they can change things as easy as WOC so there is always room for improvement!

I just saw the show for the second time (first on TV, second on youtube), and I love it. I cannot wait to travel to de Efteling.


@Xedex: De Efteling did not aim to get a new WOC/Dreams counterpart with projections. They did mention in an early stage there wouldn't be projections in the show. The intentions are memories (herinneringen) of visits to the Efteling.

Hopefully de efteling will start building Hartenhof soon.

I'm really looking forward to Hartenhof, I just hope it will match Fata Morgana and Droomvlucht in terms of ride length and quality. I adored the Pardoes serie on TV so I hope it will turn out alright!

I don't like the one in the video as much but I've never been to the park and that ones probably suits the place better than the modern one.

The Efteling has posted the full show again, only this time in HD! (which should have been done the first time :P )




For those who are wondering what and why which musical piece is used when:

From 00:00 till 01:40 You hear the By The Sleepy Lagoon tune. This tune has been in the park for 60 years and was used in one of the original Fairy-tales in the Fairytale Forest (Sprookjesbos) This tune was picked to be the main tune for the Aquanura show so it will come back a few times during the show.

Form 01:40 till 02:50 You can hear the Vila Volta tune. This tune is from one the of the parks signature attractions. Vila Volta was the first official Mad House attraction in a theme-park.

From 02:50 till 03:06 You can hear the By The Sleepy Lagoon tune again.

From 03:06 till 04:00 You can hear Afrikaan Beat. This tune is also used in one of the Fairy Tales in the Fairytale Forest (The Indian Water Lily's/De Indische Waterlelies) In the tale small fairy's dance on lily pads (which the fountains are supposed to symbolize)

Form 04:00 till 04:40 You can hear the Carnaval Festival tune. This tune is used in the darkride Carnaval Festival (Think It's A Small World with an omni-mover system)

From 04:40 till 05:00 You can hear the By The Sleepy Lagoon tune again.

From 05:00 till 06:45 You can hear the Raveleijn tune. This tune comes from the park-show/TV series/book with the same name. The show is about children finding a portal to a medieval city called Raveleijn. When they cross the portal they become adult knights with special powers.

From 06:45 till 07:00 You can hear the By The Sleepy Lagoon tune again.

From 07:00 till 08:20 You can hear the Dreamflight (Droomvlucht) tune. This tune comes from 'E-ticket' attraction of the park with the same name. It's a suspended darkride in which you fly through several dream world's (Fairy's, Trolls, Fauns and more)

From 08:20 till 09:05 You can hear Minuet by Bach. This tune comes from the Musical Mushrooms (Muzikale Paddestoelen) you can also find in the Fairytale Forest.

From 09:05 till 09:25 You can hear the By The Sleepy Lagoon tune again.

From 09:25 till 12:00 !The Grand Finale! You can hear the Danse Macabre by Saint-Saëns. This tune is used the parks haunted house Spook Loc (Spookslot) In this haunted house the used the original idea behind Saint-Saëns Danse Macabre about the death raising form there graves at night and going back to the grave when the sun comes up.

It is a typical Efteling product, as enchanting poetry is one of the main drivers and trademarks of the park. Every attraction in a park should comply to the very style and identity of that park, and this one DOES 100%. (If one takes an off the self product, it does not, never, nowhere.)

One of the marketing errors from Efteling, however, is advertising and promoting it everywhere as "3rd largest in the world".
I believe and advocate personally, that both talks around technology ( style "first XYZ-tech in the world...") and about size NEVER should be considered to position an attraction. Cut these out from those marketing reflexes !
The attraction should be positioned by describing the uniqueness of the experience only = content and presentation quality. If marketed with a teaser around the fairy tale driven poetry in water and light (for instance), this will be a lasting reality, coinciding with the product. "3rd largest" can be lost next year. Then, the original message is turned into a fake, but... so what? It is absolutely non-essential ! The essential is WHAT you are going to experience. The story (if any), the mood, the atmosphere, the art, the triggering of the senses...

Totally agree with your post!
Bart de Boer (Head of the park) has told on twitter that they already are tweaking and adding stuff to the show. From seeing the show in person I have seen that there where quit a few points with low fountains. With flat viewing areas it's hard to see those so they've mixed it with higher fountains.

Just as I hoped the show is easy to work with (adding/removing) let's hope it will be like WOC and will change and be a living thing! AND will have special New Years Eve show (and maybe a Christmas show!)

It's official! AQUANURA 1.2 has debuted!



They addressed many of the low fountain only points in the show and played a more with the colors of the fountains. But thats not all, the new show looks better already but from today 1.3 will debut with more tweaking!

They also added more moments to use the flame throwers (which works very well!)
