Need hotel suggestions for Sea World/San Diego Zoo area

I'm using my tax refund money to take a mini weekend trip to Sea World San Diego and possibly also San Diego Zoo somewhere around mid to late March.

Does anyone have any suggestions on good hotels in that area? Maybe some experiences with hotels can be shared? I plan on searching myself but I wanted to get any experience stories. I have AAA discount as well and will use Kayak.com to search. I like Kayak.

For the zoo there isn't anything close by, as in walking distance, and the closest hotels to the zoo are downtown and they tend to be pricey.

Mission Valley hotel circle is your best bet for Sea World.

The hotel circle has a lot of mid-price range hotels and motels. The huge Fashion Valley mall is within walking distance from many of them. Lots of good places to eat there.
The last time I was in San Diego I stayed at a Best Western near the airport. It was nice but it was not close to the Zoo or Sea World. If you are not familiar with driving around San Diego, I would try to book a hotel that has a shuttle service.

I'm actually pretty familier with S.D. I just wanted something close so I didn't drive alot. Also, I decided on Sea World only...no Zoo.
Thanks for suggestions. I book through hotels.com and found the Holiday Inn Express had good reviews but I'll look into hotel circle. Thanks!
