this ride terrified me as a kid. tHEY had a swan boat ride, a dumbo type ride with bees, and a merry go round.

I grew up not far from the area. As a kid, my parents would frequently take me to the mall, but I wasn't allowed on the dark ride (size restrictions IIRC, could easily have been parents simply not wanting to ride). By the time I was old enough to go on my own the mall had become a little alarming to be at. And of course the ride was gone.
Credibility is to be sought for. Credulity is not. Sadly the latter is our normal human state.

I knew Old Town had a merry-go-round (or carousel) but I didn't know they had this. Neat!

There was another one, wasn't there? I remember a two story dark ride, with the ride vehicles suspended on an overhead track. It was more fantasy based, as I recall, and included a short spinning tunnel, ala the end of the Universal Studio Tram Tour.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

Your memory is good. Yes, there was another dark ride just like you describe.
