Cool Vehicle testing on Santa Cruz Boardwalk's Undertow

Stopped by for lunch yesterday, and saw a car going up the lift hill. It did not appear to be in spin mode, no dummies or anything, and a gathering on the load platform afterwards. I saw another cycle through as I was leaving an hour later, and even walked back for pics/video if another went through, but they immediately had another meeting. It's possible they cycled through more than that when I was on the Dipper or Carousel, there were 3 cars on the track and a few others on the storage spur under wraps. Track looks interesting; I'm hopeful for a big improvement over Hurricane. I get one more work day in the area before they go weekend only, and may go to a Friday night band, too. Meanwhile, here's 2 views from the same spot. I'll make a point to have a camera beyond my phone next time; it's hard to get a good perspective where it is on the 2nd level.

Took long enough. Going up on the 25th for the 49ers game so hopefully we'll get to take a ride on the 26th before heading home.

Can't help but wonder what the delay is. They had Hurricane dismantled in early Sep 2012. The 26th is actually my last lunch day with the rides open; perhaps we'll run into each other if that's the time you're there.

The park opens at noon so that sounds about right.

Cool Re: Vehicle testing on Santa Cruz Boardwalk's Undertow

So thrill seekers it was exciting walking towards the BW on Friday. In just 5 days they went from one vehicle per hour to vehicles cycling through continuously. Still empty, but appeared to be running smoothly. Here are some views.

That last one was taken from the beach; may as well turn around watch the show.

The man without a guitar is not in the band, but signs at shows on the Beach for those with hearing issues. Used to see this done unofficially at Grateful Dead shows, and it's cool that it has caught on. Since they played every song I expected in the 1st set, I knew the 2nd would be more of the same, so I rode a couple of other things before departing. I could hear the same songs being played as I passed the stage, so no deep cuts for you dedicated Foghat fans.

Finally, it was nice to have the wife along for once. And, I guess it's even nicer that she never reads Micechat.

Awesome pics. Unfortunately we aren't going to make it up for the 49ers game next weekend so no SCBB for us. If you happen to get to the park when the ride opens take some pics and we'll put an article together for it (if you don't mind).

No problem; should it work out for both our needs if all goes smoothly. Hopefully your cancellation is for a benign reason. I'll keep an eye on the beach.

Re: Vehicle testing on Santa Cruz Boardwalk's Undertow

Despite looking extremely hopeful, standing at the construction fence today did not lead to an invitation to be the first human rider. Still running tests, and the guy I talked with didn't care to throw me a guess on when it might open. Guess my SC work day lunches will be in the redwoods until next summer; could be worse. I did do a Cave Train video, though.

Re: Vehicle testing on Santa Cruz Boardwalk's Undertow

It's finally a go! The Boardwalk's website states that limited operations will start on weekends with a grand opening in tbe spring. I'm currently converting our home into our annual haunted house, but plan to check it out the 1st weekend in Nov. A long time coming indeed.
