Cool Disney animation artifacts at L. A. County Fair

I put this here because it is local for Southern California and I don't know where else to put it!

Visit this site to get info on "Pencils 2 Pixels - The Art of Animation" exhibit at the L. A. County Fair in Pomona.

    www.lacountyfair.com/2013/entertainment/Pencils2Pixels.asp

This exhibit features animation artifacts from many different studios, but the Walt Disney Family Museum has its own special space. There is an admission price to the fair itself (but there are discounts galore at the fair website), but the animation exhibit has no additional charge. (There is also a Star Trek exhibit that costs five dollars.)

You've got until September 29 to see it. The fair is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

There should be a sticky thread called "This Day in Disney History." The company has a long history and this would be a good way to acknowledge it. Walt was born 112 years ago; that's quite a chunk of American history and culture.

I was there this past weekend and it was truly AMAZING. The voiceover actor who plays Goofy, Bill Farmer, was there when I was visiting, and he was really friendly and interesting to talk to (and yes, he did the voice!). They have a lot of non-Disney animation artifacts as well, so if you're at all interested in either Disney or Animation, it's well worth a visit. And they have $10 tickets to the fair available at Ralphs supermarket so you can save a little money on admission there.

They also have a ride vehicle from the WDW version of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (that is now closed)...Name: lacf56.jpg

If you go on Fridays between Noon and 5PM, you can get in FREE if you bring five cans of food.

Just came back from the Fair. Besides stuff from the theme parks, you can watch the Steamboat Willie cartoon, see a blowup of the first Herb Ryman illustration of Disneyland, and see a scale version of the multiplane camera.

There's also a lot of stuff on the Carolwood Railroad he had in his Los Angeles home, including a miniature with a working train. Also lots of historic Walt Disney photos I've not seen before (haven't visited the museum in San Francisco yet, and it really whetted my appetite to visit).

Wow, that looks awesome! I think it's cool that your county fair has all that entertainment stuff, since that's probably a big industry in your county. Our county fair is still pretty agriculture-focused, even though there isn't much agriculture left in the county...it would be cool to see more things at the fair reflecting the current things going on in the county!

They have a lot of different kinds of exhibits at the L.A. County Fair. They're not usually entertainment-themed, though. For a couple consecutive years recently they had audio animatronic dinosaurs in one of the buildings. One year they had a winter wonderland with sledding down a snow-covered hill.

Maybe there are lots of entertainment options in this area, so they want to have something new every year. I think people would still go for the livestock, the horse racing, the plant exhibits, the carnival rides, and the vendor halls, though. The smaller county fairs in this region don't have so many entertainment features.

The only fair I've seen that compares to LA County is the Texas State Fair in Dallas every October. That fair can draw 4,000,000 total and 200,000 on the day UT plays Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl.

I tried ziplining for the first time in my life at the fare for just $10 and loved it. (See other thread in this section where I added some other fair tips too.) Ziplining for just $10 at LA County Fair (weekday evening)

Not My Real Name, thanks for the free admission tip above!

And SpacemanSpiff, thank you for posting those photos!
