Nintendo to launch Travelling Pokemon amusement park

TOKYO (AFP) - Japan's Nintendo will launch a travelling amusement park later this year with rides based on Pokemon characters, starting in Taiwan.

The Pokemon theme park will open in Taipei for a three-month run from June, aiming to draw a total of one million visitors, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun said Saturday in its evening edition.

The Nintendo group is considering moving the park later to the United States, Europe and Shanghai, the economic daily added.

The ubiquitous Pokemon characters, originally developed by Nintendo for its "Game Boy" machine, have been made into a television animation series aired in 70 countries and regions.

The Pokemon park was temporarily built last year in the central Japanese city of Nagoya to coincide with the World Exposition held for six months to September. It drew 4.5 million visitors during its half-year run.
Nintendo officials could not be reached to confirm the report.

4.5 million in 6 months!!! Watch out DCA

Yah, but what would be in that park except a bunch of video games and some characters running around. This sounds like the second floor of innoventions. I can't believe they would have any real rides beyond a few kiddy carnival rides.

Nintendo need to concertrate on a decent next generation console instead of crap like this.

4.5 million visitors to a temporary park... I think they more than made their money back. I'm sure they didn't put their entire staff to run the park, so they can continue running Revolution development without hinderence from the park.

Second floor of innoventions? Not so sure about that... look at the pictures:

And big on merchandising options, too:

(WalMart.com claims to be the exclusive US distributor of this DS)

So THAT's what they're doing with it. Was wondering what would happen to it.

This plan had been floated before as permanent park in Japan, but fell as the franchise lost it's status. I figured it was dead, but it appears it's been revived as a carnival.

Somehow, I doubt they're all quivering at TDL. This looks about as dull as Nintendo's home systems.

It looks about the same as a church carnival. Now if they brought that to E3 as Nintendo's booth, I'd be excited. Looks like an million dollars they could have put into R&D to give us a decent home system. No wonder Nintendo isn't taken seriously in video games anymore. I don't think TDL has anything to worry about. Now DCA...well that's another matter.

Or a park based on all of the Character in the Nintendo Family, Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, Kirby, Metroid. They could do so much with all there established characters.

Agreed, that could be so cool. I would go to that if it were done right. Not like the carnival pics above though...

I can totally see a BLAB type ride for Metroid, Autopia type ride for Mario Kart, etc... so many possibilities.

Lol as sick as I am of Pokemon, if the carnival was not too badly priced I'd go for a good laugh.
