Thumbs up Stills from the 1977 film Roller Coaster

I watched the film Rollercoaster the other night. It's a thriller from 1977. The film is about a guy who sets off bombs at amusement parks and the police that follow him.

The film is really good, so I won't spoil too much of the plot. It's currently running on Encore and Movieplex. AMC also runs it occasionally.

    It's also on DVD.

The film takes place in the following parks:
    Ocean View Amusement Park: Virginia
    Paramount's Kings Dominion: Virginia
    Six Flags Magic Mountain: California

    Next is Kings Dominion Park:

This next one appears to be some kind of safari ride. Does anyone know if this is still at PKD?

Note one of the Banana Splits in the background of the next shot:

The film's climax is at Magic Mountain's Revolution coaster:

The imdb says:A plaque commemorating where the scene "SPOILER EDITED" still stands at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

Can anyone confirm this? Also, does anyone know about the Safari at PKD?

It's an OK movie. It was filmed in Sensurround, so being at a movie house with the sub-woofers was really fun. the small screen dosn't do it justice, though I haven't seen it in someone's Sensurround home theater room. The Coasters are the best part.

I liked it back in the day just because of the amusement parks! I went to Kings Dominion back in 1979 and wanted to ride the Safari Monorail so bad but the line was too long Not sure if its still there but you can always check their website out.

Kings Dominion sure looks a LOT like the King's Island of 1979.... Fountains, German-like architecture, Eiffel Tower, that tunnel thing, Hanna-Barbera, Safari Monorail (I really miss that)...

Were the two parks built with the same blueprints?

BTW: If you need some comparison for the time, The Brady Bunch had a 2 part episode filmed at King's Island.

    Correction... Single episode

Partridge Family and Banana Splits also filmed there about that time.

They were built by the same company, hence the similarities.

I checked out Wikipedia, the Safari is gone. The Rebel Yell coaster is still there, however.

King's Island lost their Safari Monorail when Paramount moved in. It was great... live animals roaming freely, nice, air-conditioned monorails... it was an extra fee, but worth it. Currently, Top Gun and Son of Beast sit on top of the area where it once was.

I don't remember at all... it's been a LONG time since I've seen the episode.

Here is the plaque at SFMM:

It doesn't say anything about the movie, just that it was featured in the movie.

^ I actually do have a picture of it ... but it's not my picture. I'm not at home or I would have posted it.

I got it from RCDB. If they didn't have it you would have had to wait until I got home from work.

Sounds like Paul Ruben wrote it

It's a funny movie for the cheese factor and the fact that Helen Hunt and Steve Guttenberg are really young in it.
