Universal Studios Hollywood Photo Review August 6, 2006
We went to Universal Studios - the first time I had been in 12 years -- this past weekend. Suprisingly really fun, and a good clean park! We saw all the shows, and I enjoyed the new Fear Factor show more than I expected to. That was kind of the theme of the day - I enjoyed Mummy: The Ride, Jurassic Park, Shrek 4D, Jurassic Park, etc. I really liked the baby swap rooms they have at USH - great idea, that Disney can adapt.
The funniest part of the day was the sign in line for the Shrek 4D Show:
"Welcome to the Happiest Totalitarian Dictatorship in the World! -- Well, okay, the second happiest.
Be sure to visit our newest theme park, Farquad's Adventure in California! 74 Shops, and One Ride!"
That had me laughing for a while. Oh, and on the Jurassic Park ride, they had a boat that had been attacked by dinosaurs, who ate all the tourists... the only thing left floating in the water was a pair of "Golden Ears" 50th Anniversary mouse ears!

My son's favorite ride:

Oh I wish you had photos of them!
Looks like you had a great time.

Glad you had a good time. My daughter works on the studio lot (not the amusement) so we've gotten backstage visits. It's a pretty cool place. They were filming some of Pirates 2 and 3 at Universal when we were there last. There were Pirates walking around all over the place. None of the lead stars were around though. I least we didn't recognize any.

Yes, when we took the studio tour, they had just finished filming on Wisteria Lane, so we got to go on that when it opened, and they also pointed to some areas where they filmed the "Tortuga" town scenes, and where they said they filmed a scene between Johnny Depp (Captain Sparrow) and Bill Nighy (Davy Jones), although I have to say, it didn't look familiar from what I remembered in the movie.

^ Were they referring the CJS & DJ scene to POTC2 or 3??
Wysteria Lane is usually open to the tram tour on weekends and usually closes on weekdays for shoots. If they're shooting inside the soundstage on a weekday, they'll open up Wysteria Lane.
I don't think I recall the "Be sure to visit our newest theme park, Farquad's Adventure in California!" portion of that sign... interesting.
Glad you had fun! I'm gonna go back for Halloween Horror Nights!

The tour bus operator referred to "the scene in Pirates: Dead Man's Chest" where Sparrow made a deal with Davy Jones. I thought that scene took place on a boat, which is why the european looking street he pointed to didn't really resonate with me, and I think he might have been wrong.
The filming schedule at the front said "Desperate Housewives" on the back lot, and the tour guide stated that for the morning tours, they were forbidden from going onto this area, but that it had opened for the afternoon.
Overall, a fun day!

And please take photos during Halloween Haunt nights... I'd love to see what they do with the park! The "Van Helsing" maze area is perfect for that, but I'm sure they'll do much, much more, as Universal is famous for its monster movies...

Yeah, we've got plenty of ghastly pics (on film) from our previous visits to USH during HHN. My favorite is the one of the Easter Bunny (covered in blood) holding a chain saw up to my wife's neck!
Thanks for the report!
