Check out this article on the park's interactive icon, Mount Rockmore...featuring the busts of Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix.

MASSIVE "MOUNT ROCKMORE" SAND SCULPTURE HIGHLIGHTS GROUNDBREAKING OF HARD ROCK PARK
The World’s First Rock n’ Roll Theme Park
    $400 Million Project Represents
Single Largest Tourism Investment in South Carolina History
(Myrtle Beach, S.C. – July 13, 2006) – Construction officially began today on Hard Rock Park, the single largest tourism investment in South Carolina’s history and the first new major theme park to be built in the U.S. in nearly a decade. The $400 million park is scheduled to open in the spring of 2008.
To celebrate the occasion, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, park management and other gathered dignitaries scooped out ivory-toned Myrtle Beach sand at the site with customized multi-colored electric “guitar shovels” specially designed for the occasion to unveil a massive, 250-ton sand sculpture interpretation of Mount Rushmore at the site.
In true Hard Rock fashion, instead of U.S. presidents, ‘Mount Rockmore’ as it was dubbed, featured the countenances of rock legends Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix. The monument, was carved by artisans as a tribute to rock n’ roll legends who have inspired, influenced and entertained generations of music lovers.
With more than five years in creation and design, the innovative Hard Rock Park will feature six unique “rock environs” celebrating rock’s culture, lifestyle, legends and irreverence. Appealing to the family audience, the destination theme park will offer a diverse blend of rides, shows and interactive elements creating a totally immersive full day experience.
The 150-acre park is expected to entertain as many as 30,000 guests per day and will create more than 3,000 jobs, providing an economic boon to the state.
Gov. Sanford said, “For generations, Myrtle Beach has been a major draw for tourism in our state, particularly when it comes to being a place for families to enjoy their vacations. With the addition of a major international attraction like Hard Rock Park, it’s one more reason for folks to visit the Grand Strand and South Carolina.
Hard Rock Park represents the largest single investment in tourism infrastructure in our history and we believe that this project will significantly accelerate the growth of the state’s largest export – tourism.” Sanford added.
Steven Goodwin, CEO of HRP Myrtle Beach Operations LLC which will operate the park said, “People always talk about the rock revolution. Well, why not a revolution in the evolution of theme parks? This will be a type of entertainment that no one has ever seen before.”
Hard Rock Park’s creators have spent years collaborating with experts in the themed-entertainment industry as well as musical legends and rock culture aficionados to create a high quality mix of rides, shows and interactive elements. The design of the park promotes a social interaction in a fun atmosphere for people of all ages.
Oliver Munday, Vice President of Hard Rock International, who has licensed the Hard Rock brand to the project said, “Hard Rock Park provides a great opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in rock n’ roll music and the culture. We pride ourselves on having the world’s greatest collection of music memorabilia… and Hard Rock Park will showcase some of our finest pieces to help tell the story of music within the park.”
Munday then presented the park with its first item of memorabilia: the authentic Magical Mystery tour bus from the classic Beatles movie.

Whatever you want, cause that land is for hotel guests only...that don't have to drive home directly afterward.

So is this basically going to be a coaster park with a rock and roll theme or will it have a wide array of family attractions as well. I've got family who lives less than an hour from Myrtle Beach, if it's any good and family oriented I may make a trip up there. If it's just another coaster park then I'll just stay home.

Attrctions will include interactive rides, dark rides, water rides, state of the art effects laden shows, etc.

HRP will have coasters...but some of them will be immersive like Space Mountain and Big Thunder. It will definitely not be another crappy coaster/extreme thrill ride venue like Paramount, Six Flags and Cedar Fair. That's the wonderful thing about it. Get your family geared up to go when it opens, kcnole! I'll let you know when I find out the opening date.

B&M, Premier, Vekoma, all they are missing is Intamin and they'll be all over the top steel coaster companies.
    Sounds promising.

Vekoma designed Rock N Roller Coaster for Disney MGM Studios. Spacely's Sprocket Rockets is a junior family coaster designed by the company. The ride is located at Six Flags Great America. Below is a description -

Instead of a chain lift, electric motors connected to tires propel the train up the 28 foot tall first hill. The smallest person in this train is the only one with hands in the air!

    Premier
has designed two quality family coasters that I know if. The first is Outer Limits Flight of Fear - an exciting and well themed indoor coaster. The second is one of the most delightful family coasters on the planet. I'm talkinf about Italian Job Stunt Track which is themed to the movie and located at Paramount parks.

Point is that major coaster companies are perfectly capable of producing well themed family coasters...if that is the desire of those who call the shots for any particular theme park.

Hard Rock Cafe is as diferent as night and day from most restaurants...and among the most successful. Odds all, the company is driven to attempt to emulate and surpass the top competion in the theme park business as well. They want to be the next Disneyland or Universal Resort...not Cedar Fair, Paramount or Six Flags. Plus, they will have far more rides and shows, etc. than the trademarked names that i have listed.

Non-coaster ride manufacturers are sure to be involved in the creation of Hard Rock Park as well. I believe thjat it's own in-house team of creative engineers has designed and buoit the resorts first attraction...Mount Rockmore.

Not to mention they got B&M to venture into a roller coaster with on board Audio!

(the first test is reported to the the new coaster's gonna be tested in Uni Japan... then a new layout will be created for this park... i think)

B&M with onboard audio is enough for me.. lol

Hard Rock Park looks to be another basic Amusement Park with clever names on average rides. No real wow. The Courtney Love walk around character should be interesting. They'll have to give the guests Purell after the hug. This IMHO represents the true death of Rock and Roll as a medium of rebellion. A Phil Spector shooting gallery of girlfriends would have been nice. Notice that hip hop, the biggest pop music catagory of all is not even represented (but Bob Marley is). Their vague "no big idea" rendering says it all. Guaranteed to underwhelm. The Rockmore should have featured Milli Vanilli and an investor from Wall Street.

How soon we forget the severe criticism that Walt received, even following the groundbreaking of Disneyland, and throughout it's construction prior to opening day. Just remember, it all started with rock n roll.

I love Hard Rock Park...Put another nickle in the juke box, baby...

How about a ride through Bono's ego? Don't worry U2 fans...I'm sick in love with that band and it's also my My Space name, so please don't show up at my front door.
Is this haunted room actually stretching? Or is it the four beers you had at DCA, hmmm?

Been following this park's news for a while, can't wait to see how it turns out! Personally, I think the Mushroom Garden is quite appropriate. The developers would only have to make an empty lot, the guests would imagine everything else, lol.
