Back To the Future 1990-2007 R.I.P

The Universal Studios Florida site has finally confirmed a closing date for Back To The Future - March 30th.

I know this has been discussed in other threads when the rumours of it's impending demise began circulating (how's that for wordy?), but this is the first I've heard of a definite date.

Personally I'll be sad to see it go. Although it was allowed to descend into a shadow of its former self, I always thought it was a excellent attraction - great themeing, involving story and immersive effects.

    R.I.P - you'll be missed.

That's pretty sad. I suppose it's just around the corner that USH's BTTF will be removed as well. Bummer. With simple upgrades and maybe a new movie, or new ride modules...a good 'ol refurb could make the attraction last another 10 years.

Oh well. Sorry, Doc. *raises glass* Here's to progress.

All I have to say is that I won't mind as long as the new ride is amazing. I was really sad to lose Kong, and still am, but the mummy is an amazing rideso it's not too bad. Losing the Ghostbusters show for Twister was just ridiculous and Hanna Barbera for Jimmy Neutron makes me sad. So this better be a quality replacement and not just another cheap overlay.

Bummer. This is probably my all time favorite theme park attraction (it's my all time favorite film.) The attention to detail in the pre show, the vehicle and the film itself are amazing.

Oh well, maybe I will invent a time machine so I can ride it again...

Sad... it was always one of USF's busiest attractions, wasn't it?

No official word, but since the rumor first came up last year its been said that it's going to be a Simpson's ride.

I'll second that emotion re Ghostbusters - Twister is one of the few attractions I can think of where the pre-show is better than the ride itself.
As for BTTF's replacement, I'll bet it's the long rumored Simpsons overlay on basically the same technology.
But here's hoping for something worthy of the company that bought us Amazing Adventures Of Spiderman at IOA...

Unfortunately, Hollywood doesn't make movies like Back to the Future anymore, so I can't see any ride/attraction replacing it that will be better than BTTF. However, I can't say I'm sad to see it go. There's a lot of space there, and USH doesn't have room to waste with attractions that don't attract.

However, the last time I was on this ride, it was, truly, a 'shadow of it's former self.' I had ridden it twice prior and remember the fun of it, but when I took my partner on it in 2001, the screen was ripped, the film skipped and it just seemed to warrant removal.

Let's see with what they go with.

^ And at least with USH's, the employees there don't really care if you get all the pre-show storylines. Just want to cycle as many people as fast as possible. At least that's from my latest experiences.

I hope they don't do the same with the one in Hollywood!

Re: Back To the Future 1990-2007 R.I.P

I definitely think it's time for BTTF to go. It was cutting edge at the time, but it hasn't aged all that well. By today's standards, the film quality is hokey, and the vehicle movement is very jarring & painful. The big kicker... if you pay attention to the storyline, you're zapped into the far off, distant year of.... 2015. Meh. Not all that far off, by now! When most people catch that fact in the pre-show, it gets a rather unintentional laugh!

Still, I haven't really heard solid word if USH's BTTF is going along the same path. While USF closes, USH's keeps chugging along for some mysterious reason. Anyone (Darkbeer?) know if USH is going to be following USF on this one, and did the Simpsons go through? If so, why the delay in the timeline? Are they waiting to see how USF goes first? I'd hate to see it's name change to Back to the Past.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?
