"Yesterday, a man walked up to me and said, 'Isn't it a shame that Walt Disney couldn't be here to see this?' and I said, "He did see this, that's why it's here."

When you wish upon a star your dreams come true.
Wow.. the saftey systems worked thought....
(how long were they up there.. Darn prototypes having ghost problems...)
The train was perfectly balanced... they sent a mechanic up on the elevator at the back of the tower, and he simply gave the train a little push.
Wow. What are the odds.Originally Posted by CoasterMatt

I don't know what the odds are, but I read it has happened three or four other times ... I would SERIOUSLY freak out ... can you imagine the wind at 420 feet? HOLY CRAP!![]()
Dang! That happened the day after I left from Cedar Point, now I have even more reason to not go on it. Besides the fact that I suddenly get Vertigo whenever I look up at the coaster.
But...but what about if it went down backwards the wrong way??? That's what would freak me out.
Does anyone know how the system would handle a train that didn't quite make it to the top?
The mechanic has balls of titanium. That drop after being up there for so long would be un-freakin-believable, with all the anticipation.
What would cause the system to not give the car enough push to make it over?
The ride actually does have issues with making it over the tower ... it just depends on the wind resistance, the weight of the car, and if the ride senses this properly and gives it enough power. The launch system actually has the power to launch the train much faster than 120 mph but ... doesn't![]()
If the train doesn't make it over it comes back down and is stopped by the copper fins that come up after the launch. (They go down right before the launch so that it doesn't impede the actual launch)
^ That's good to know- I don't know a lot about roller coasters, so its good to know that this wasn't an unusual occurance. The trip back down backward would be freaky- I would almost want it it happen it me!
A rollback on Top Thrill Dragster is... unusual to say the least.
I've had rollbacks on Top Thrill Dragster (including my very first ride on it), and Xcelerator (the prototype hydraulic launched "rocket coaster").
On TTD, after we rolled back, the ride crew asked if everybody still wanted to ride, then a few minutes later, we rolled back to the launch position, the lights went up - WOOHOO!!!
