    "The Dark Knight" Coaster/Darkride!

OK, as a Batman fan, I was thrilled to read this. Maybe it's not much, but after years of crappy non-themed "Batman" coasters, this is AMAZING news. I always thought the character could have amazing dark ride/themed coaster potential, and it looks like Six Flags may finally start playing around with the idea:

‘The Dark Knight’ Themed Roller Coaster Coming To Three Six Flags Theme Parks In 2008
New York -- Six Flags announced today that it will open a new indoor, themed roller coaster based on Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming movie The Dark Knight featuring DC Comics' characters Batman and The Joker at three of its theme parks next year.
The new attraction named “The Dark Knight Coaster” will open at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ, Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL and Six Flags New England in Agawam, MA in May 2008. Each installation will cost an estimated $7.5 million.
"Today's announcement represents Six Flags Great America's continued focus on delivering a well-rounded and balanced entertainment package," said Hank Salemi, Six Flags Great America's Park President.
The Dark Knight Coaster according to Six Flags will transform guests into citizens of Gotham City - caught in the middle of a city under siege and torn apart by The Joker.
"The Dark Knight Coaster offers a unique experience that will appeal to families and teens alike," added Mark Kane, Six Flags Great Adventure's Park President.
Onboard The Dark Knight Coaster, guests will experience the ride of their lives.
Six Flags says the excitement begins as guests venture through demented hallways of twists, turns and hallucinatory images, while they are tormented by The Joker himself. Then as they set foot onto a distressed, vandalized train platform, they can only guess at what awaits them as they speed through six 180-degree hairpin turns, climb unseen hills, plunge into pitch darkness and dip into unforeseen danger. And of course, in the midst of all this chaos it’ll be up to Batman himself to save you.
"The opening of The Dark Knight Coaster will be perfectly-timed to coincide with the debut of the next Batman film from director Christopher Nolan. We're very excited that fans will be able to have a first-hand experience with the sites, sounds and thrills of crime fighting in Gotham City," said Brad Globe, President, Warner Bros. Worldwide Consumer Products.
Six Flags says The Dark Knight Coasters will use storytelling, physical movement, video, sound and special effects to bring guests a one-of-a-kind dark ride experience.
“At a cost of $7.5 million, The Dark Knight will be the first indoor roller coaster at Six Flags New England,” said Larry Litton, Six Flags New England's Park President.
The plans is to locate this new roller coaster in the Orleans Place at Six Flags Great America, the DC section at Six Flags New England and Movietown at Six Flags Great Adventure. Planning and initial prepartion for the construction of The Dark Knight Coaster is already underway at all three Six Flags parks. Warner Bros. The Dark Knight movie opens July 18, 2008 at theatres nationwide.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect much for such a low figure. But maybe they really know how to stretch a dollar..

Think of this. Revenge of the Mummy cost 40 million. And that ride barley qualifies as a Darkride/Rollercoaster. I'd like to see how this turns out.

Aww man ... I never got to ride the Batman side, only Robin.

But with all of the problems it had, I'm not surprised.

Any word if it's going to another park? I'm so out of touch with my park news.

I expect these are all going to be Wild Mouse Coasters, which makes SFGAm a very odd place to have one since they already have a (far superior) spinning wild mouse.

Hahha 7.5 million. Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia has Batman the Ride and Riddler's Revenge... all with their idea of theming. It's probably not going to be actual sets like in Mummy Returns... maybe painted backgrounds and stationary figures?

So it's basically a Wild Mouse indoors I presume. How exciting.

    Oh, Six Flags.

I was almost excited about this until I saw the pricetag. Oh well, I guess likely cheap lighting effects or rudimentary spook house mechanics beats a logo slapped on the side of a ridecar.

If only the Batman license was owned by a themepark chain that wasn't so fricking cheap.
Forget 'Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln,' Samantha Brown is Disney's most sophisticated animatronic.

At least Six Flags is actually buying the park model Mack mouse coaster ride systems, unlike Disney who bought a portable model for Mulholland Madness.

And no, Mulholland Madness did NOT cost anywhere near $7.5 million.
