So let's take out more of what maked Knott's Unique (the shooting gallery) and putting in another outside food vendor.

    Ugh.

Personally I have a lot of love for the old Knott's. I was into Knott's more than I was Disneyland when I was a kid. But as far as I'm concerned I don't care what happens to the park one bit. The Knott Family sold out and sold the park to a company that stuffs its parks full of roller coasters. Why should I care what happens to the park anymore? I just don't have that same emotional attachment to Knott's that I do Disneyland.

I enjoy the park for what it is now, an adequate coaster park with some of the old Knott's charm. I say enjoy it while it lasts.

Here's Knott's official announcement regarding Pony Express,

    http://home.businesswire.com/portal/...77&newsLang=en

    Knott’s New Pony Express Delivers!

New Coaster Gets the Job Done, Delivering ''First Class'' Thrills –

BUENA PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Knott's Berry Farm is on a mission to deliver “First Class” thrills with the opening of their new coaster, Pony Express, set to arrive Memorial Day Weekend 2008.

Named after the famous Pony Express which promised a faster mail service on the North American continent, Knott’s Pony Express promises a horseback relay at speeds never imagined in the Old West!

While sitting astride one of the team’s 16 horses, riders will leave their post with their stead launching them at a speed of 0-38 mph in less than 3 seconds. The terrain for the mounted riders will be rugged as they navigate an ascending banked turn to a height of over 44 ft. then through a series of heart-pounding 60 degree banked turns, camel backs and tight maneuvers. The team will cover a 1,300 foot route which will take them past Boot Hill and Big Foot Rapids resulting in an exhilarating runaway adventure!

Knott’s will be looking for robust riders over 48” tall who can endure the challenging journey and appreciate the autonomy of the freestyle ride.

Designed and manufactured by the Zamperla company of Vicenza, Italy, Pony Express will fit Knott’s Berry Farm’s Ghost Town area like a cowboy in his saddle!

Knott’s Berry Farmis owned and operated by Cedar Fair, L.P., a publicly traded partnership that is listed for trading on The New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “FUN.” In addition to Knott's Berry Farm, Cedar Fair owns and operates five other amusement parks and five water parks, and operates a seventh amusement park under a management contract. For media information, please call Knott’s Public Relations at (714) 220-5130.
So Pony Express will be opening on Memorial Weekend

-OFF TOPIC: Didn't Sierra Sidewinder opened during Memorial Weekend?-

Ah Elly you beat me to it. I was going to say it is just the motorcycle chase with horses. But if they theme this ride right then it could be alright. If it is just planted into the area with no western theming to the old west and the Pony Express then it will be a shame.

I'd say, ok, cool, a family coaster.

But once again, Knott's builds a "family" coaster with a 48" height requirement for riders.

1300ft. of track - top speed of 38mph- probably not enough of a thrill for most kids.

By the time most kids are tall enough to ride Pony Express, they'll probably wanna ride something a bit bigger.

    CoasterMatt makes a good point.

This ride will most definately have a 48" height requirement. I'm still SHOCKED that the new spinner coaster didn't have that one. Until Jaguar get's moved to a simiar requirement (42" but riders 42" through 47" have to ride with an adult) then I'd doubt the new coaster will have anything but a 48" requirement.

Let's not forget that it wasn't that long ago that both Jaguar and Montezooma's Revenge had height requirements of 42".

Well, Wilderness scambler wasn't even that old....

And yes I do agree that the park is really going downhill, but atleast the new coasters have a bit of theme to them.. its not just placed there for no absolute reason.

As long as they never removed Calico Mine ride, Timber Mountain, Big foot rapids, or Jaguar! I'll still continue to go.

Why can't they just admit they made a mistake and bring back the Soap Box Racers? <sigh>

Lived in Cerritos and went to Knott's many many times growing up. As a teen would go on dates for the 1/2 day price. Returned a few years ago with the kids and haven't been back. They've drained almost all the charm out of it. Old roaring 20's area was a joke. Theme and "Americana" aspect is all but gone.

Because the people who made the mistake (i.e. the Knott family) are long gone. They made lots of mistakes, the aforementioned Roaring 20's/Boardwalk area being just one of them.
