Hard Rock Park Coming To California?

overview of Hard Rock Park - concept art

    http://www.ocregister.com/news/park-...98-golf-course

The park is scheduled to open in Myrtle beach, South Carolina this coming Spring, 2008. According to the OC Register, (see above link) a second park is being considered for California by Hard Rock International. Currently, the area that it most likely may be placed is at an old golf course located in Santa Ana and owned by Garden Grove. Willowwik Golf Course is the prime site that we are talking about. It's not that far from Disneyland. City officials from Garde Grove toured the grounds of Hard Rock Park, SC last month.

The question is, would you like to see a Hard Rock Park come to the Golden State?

Here is an update on the attractions that will be placed in each of the park's environs (lands) -

As many of you already know, the new theme park will boast five lands, i.e. rock environs:

    1) All Access Entry Plaza (can be likened to Main Street, USA),

    2) Rock & Roll Heaven - Led Zeppelin, The Ride (coaster w/ "Whole Lotta Lovin" sundtrack), Reggae River Falls (kids play area featuring jammin' sounds), Malibu Beach Party show (on a lake), and special rock events)

    3) British Invasion - Moody Blues: Nights In White Satin (dark ride that incorporate sight, sound and tacktile techniqs). Maximum RPM Roadster Coaster (inludes unique ferris wheel design lift susem). Roadies Stunt Show, Magic Mushroom Garden (spinning ride), and Punk Pit (slammin' interactive aerobic attraction for entire family)

    4) Lost in the 70's - Bump 'n' Slam (rock vs. punk bumper cars), and Punk It! (bouncehouse)

    5) Born in the USA - Slippery When Wet (cross between bucket ride and coaster), Shake, Rattle and Roller Coaster, Garage Jam Ballplay (foamball play area), Funky Town Midway

    6) Cool Country - Midnight Rider (ghost train thru abandoned sawmill), Muddin' Monster Race (spinning, swinging, splashy ride thru bayou in monster trucks), Just A Swingin' (spinning swing), Heavy metal Graveyard (skulpture garden)

So far, three coasters have been announced - Maximum RPM! - trains will resmble convertables), Midnight Rider - of the mine coaster genra - it will travel thru a lumber mill, and Led Zeppelin: The Ride - (recently reported on by ALIASd) - a 150' high flying B&M coaster.

There will be heavily themed restaurants and shops throughout the park as well.

Enjoy this footage of the actual first roll of the led Zeppelin coaster -

Why would they build a new one w/o seeing how well the first one does?
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Not to mention thinking of entering Disneyland's turf.

Hard Rock International has had such a dramatic success with everything that they've touched - restaurants, hotels, casinos, and merchandise marketed the world over. Garden Grove has been anxious for some time to make a profitable venture out of their 100 acre property in Santa Ana.

On the one hand, both Hard Rock and Garden Grove desire to see how popular the new Myrte Beach park is before making any formal agreements. Still, you sometimes have to "strike while the iron is hot" - before the opportunity disapates.

With all this in mind, I imagine tha Garden Grove will watch how the park does during it's first year, and then have formal talks if the venture seems worth the risk.

That's what I like about Hard Rock. Unlike Six Flags, they've got mucho huevos and are not afraid to compete with the big boys like Disney and Universal on their own turf. Gotta hand it to Cedar Faire as well. They've certainly made a big success out of their Knott's Berry Farm aquisition - also near Disneyland. The old addage goes "nothing ventured, nothing gained".

Meh, it means some SERIOUS competition if Hard Rock came to Garden Grove. I won't be surprised if it doesn't go through though. It looks like another Knott's.

I don't know. This park just doesn't really do anything for me. I've got family near Myrtle Beach so I'll probably check this park out some time, but both the theme and the reliance on coasters just makes it seem blah to me although I'm definitely willing to wait until this park is open and see what it really looks like before I make my opinion.

If another park gets built I hope they change the rides a little so both parks will have something different and will not be a clone of the frist one.

Overall, the park seems to be far closer to a Cedar Faire/Knott's type of a park than Disney or Universal. It's rides and attractions sound far more interesting and unique than Knott's though. I believe there is a good chance that Garden Grove will be able to make this happen. Afterall, Hard Rock is designing it's first park with the idea of building others all over the United States.

That is so cool that you will be visiting Myrtle Beach! Be sure to get back to us here at MiceChat, and let us know your opinion after you visit the park.

Very profound assertion. Lots of people travel these days, and the theme park companies would all be well advised to vary the individual parks in terms of rides, shows, restaurants, and even the overall designs.

I think this has more with the proposed "Not-Hard Rock Rock park" they want to build in AZ than anything else.

    I think it'd be great.
