Kingdom of the Dinosaurs-- What's left?

Anyone know what's in the showbuilding for Kingdom of the Dinosaurs? Is much of the ride still there, just horribly decayed?

Great question. Would love to know that myself.

I want to know as well! As far as I know it is just an empty show building.

Another tragedy of the "new" Knott's.

I understand them not wanting to invest the time and money into a sub-par darkride when their focus isn't for that demographic, what I don't understand is why they haven't invested themselves into turing that unused space into some elaborote for the Haunt. Imagine, a maze or ride that they could spend all year theming, one that is built to withstand time and not be taken down in a few months. A Knotts Scary Farm Maze that doesn't have to double as anything.

I recal seeing pictures on [Link to unauthorized site removed].net from 2006 that had a few pics of the arcade attatched to it... everything was still there.. and the place was a mess.. trash everywhere, arcade games tipped over, ceiling tiles on the floor... it looks like a hurricane blew in from the boardwalk and hit it directly.

Very good point, Professortango. Last I heard, a Scooby Doo interactive dark ride was supposed to go there. Not sure if that was actually in the works. But hard to believe now that Scooby & Shaggy are at Universal and some other minor parks.

It's just so disappointing that the full transport system (track and cars) is all there and intact, and all it would take is a redecorating of the sets to open a new dark ride in there. It doesn't have to cost THAT much...come on Cedar Fair!

I thought I read that some of the set pieces had been placed in the Log Ride.

I say: Bring back Knott's Berry Tales!!!!

I know bozo's like myself (and others here ) who loved that ride might over estimate, but I really think they could have a hell of a boost if they brought that ride back, along with a few other things and then launched a "bring back the ole' times along with the new". It could be in conjunction with their new coaster.

A large part of the problem with that ride WAS the ride system. They went cheap with it and didn't install a moving belt to load the thing. I can remember trying to run alongside the cars trying to get on. Then they separated the cars a bit which didn't help. Then I heard they divided the cars up into trains and stopped the ride system to load and offload passengers. Of course that left guests sitting inside the attraction on a stopped train.

Even so, I thoroughly enjoyed both Knott's Berry Tales, and Dinosaurs. They offered a classic dark ride experience that added to the park. It's unfortunate that Knott's couldn't solve the problems with the ride and keep it running. To me it's one less reason to visit.

If they brought this back, installed a Snoopy dark ride and the Berry Tales dark ride, and plussed up the park in general with more unique little shops, walk-throughs and other knick-knacks, they'd see a lot more people going through the turnstiles. Bring back more theme and less steel/concrete.

This is another problem that started during the Van Gorder era. With his campaign to attract the younger crowd attaining it's goals came an increase in vandalism in the slow moving dark ride. When Cedar Fair took over they tried to curb the incidents by grouping the cars into trains and placing a ride host on each train. This did little to discourage the destructive nature of the patrons, to which this had become a game. Thus the decision to shutter the attraction when more time was necessary to do repairs than the ride was open.
It's interesting to note that this is almost the very scenerio behind the removal of two dark rides at their flagship park. The other nail in the coffin is these rides dismal riders per hour figures compared to the coasters and even the spectacular type rides.

Let me just start out by saying I have never been to Knotts, but this post struck my curiosity. My daughter's 1st grade class recently went on a field trip to Sally Industries Corp in Jacksonville, FL. They are a robotics factory that mainly makes interactive rides and animatronics for parks overseas. While I was there, the main group of designers was working on a Scooby Doo themed interactive ride. Of course this was the one area we were not allowed to take pictures of but I did get a few pics of interestingly Scooby looking things in other areas.
