Well.. it's unique to the USA but not to Japan, since the same feature is already in use at Universal Japan's Dream Coaster. I however am glad to know the coaster cars will light up like the japanese coaster as well. The fact it will be designed to travel as far out of the park as the Citywalk Lagoon... is similar to the way the japanese coaster travels almost to the lagoon in the center of that park. Here are some photos from Universal Japan's Dream Coaster:

Note the shooting star effect of the vehicle at night when it travels over Hollywood Blvd. This to me is the most attractive feature, since the lights move in patterns to create moving effects as the vehicles zoom overhead. It's pretty cool.

Thankfully, this coaster will slink around the soundstages and keep the theming of Hollywood Boulevard intact.

    Purely hypothetical question ...

If the coaster goes beyond the boundries of the park, and into Citywalk, doesn't that deem the bag-check at the front of the park pointless? I mean, I know they do some kind of bag-check at Citywalk, but it's not as involved as the ones at the park.

I am sorry I don't understand this question.

The bag check at CityWalk is the only bag check that you go through as you are making your way towards the parks.

The concept for this attraction is pretty cool! I am excited to buy a video of me on this ride!

Not to mention the energy it will add to CityWalk and to the front of the park is going to be pretty sweet!

Is it? I thought I remembered there being 2.

    I stand corrected.

^ USF is a WORKING studio as well, they just do most filming inside the soundstages. Good thing they're soundproof, or HRRR would be a problem.

So Japan's park has a B&M? I'm surprised Universal went with a different company for the Orlando park.

It's a working studio, but not in the same way as Hollywood. USF wouldn't survive without the theme park, the hollywood studios on the other hand would be just fine without it.

I didn't even catch that in the concept art. Good catch.

For those non-coaster people, B&M coasters are generally 4-across (Hulk and Dueling Dragons are both B&M's) and the concept shows only 2 rows.

I've seen no mention of who is building the coaster in the press release or on RCDB. From the concept art it looks like it's perhaps a Maurer Söhne as the concept art does like like the X-coaster design.

I love the shooting star/comet light effect on Japan's coaster. And I like being able to choose your own song, but I bet the song selections are going to suck as far as my music tastes go. I absolutely LOVE the Dreams Come True song from Japan (it's in regular rotation on my iPod).

lol - I know they actually do filming there, but in my head I hear Phil Hartman's voice:

"You may remember me from such classics as The New Leave It To Beaver and 1991's Parenthood."

Re: Universal makes an announcement for a new RIDE! (with concept art)

The concept art looks flashy, tacky, gaudy, and way too modern. I hate the giant video wall on the lift hill. This looks like it will be themed to appease the American Idol/TMZ generation. The stats aren't even that impressive, 65 mph and 17 stories tall is nothing. Plus, it only looks like there will be one loop. Just an hour or two away is Sheikra, at Busch Gardensand it is 200 feet tall and goes 70 mph. Then you have rides like Millenium Force at Cedar Point, and I really don't get what is so impressive about this Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rock it ride.

Lame title, unimpressive stats, unappealing theme=pretty lame.
