Universal makes an announcement for a new RIDE! (with concept art)

So Universal FINALLY announced the new coaster today!

Today we are excited to announce that a new coaster is coming to Universal Studios Florida at Universal Orlando Resort. Please read the below news release, which we will be distributing this morning. Our newHollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit will be the most technologically advanced roller coaster in the world.
    LIGHTS . . . CAMERA . . . COASTER!
Universal Orlando Resort Announces Brand-New Roller Coaster
That Features Total Immersion Entertainment and Puts Guests In The Director’s Seat
ORLANDO, FL (March 19, 2008) – Adrenaline pumping and music thumping, you find yourself heading straight toward the sky. Suddenly, you are doing 65 mph, 17 stories over Universal Studios. Gasping with excitement, you rock out to a song you picked before strapping in. And, it’s all on video. Once the adventure is over, you edit the video to send to your friends.
This is true high-tech, customizable, multi-sensory entertainment. Scheduled to open in spring 2009,Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit will stake its claim as the most technologically advanced roller coaster in the world. The Universal Creative team is combining audio and special effects engineering, sophisticated on- and off-board video and one-of-a-kind guest personalization to create a roller coaster experience unlike any other.
“This is the perfect intersection of the digital age and theme park entertainment,” said Mark Woodbury, President of Creative for Universal Parks & Resorts. “Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit blends roller coaster intensity and guest interaction in a way where no two experiences will be the same.”
Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit touts six near-miss moments and first-ever thrills including a record-breaking loop. Ride vehicles feature the brightest and most innovative color changing LEDs in the world. High-energy visual displays fill the queue line. With up to four ride vehicles on the tracks at any given time, and with concert lighting and special effects mixed in,Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit will be a true high-intensity, multi-sensory experience that is unmatched.
Guests can customize their ride experience by choosing what song will play while they’re on the roller coaster. LED boards in the queue lines will display song options from five genres (classic rock, rap, country, pop and soundtracks). Once on-board, guests can choose their song or let the coaster’s digital sound system choose for them. When the ride is over, guests will be able to customize footage from their experience and compile it into a take-home music video.

Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit will be located near the Jimmy Neutron attraction traveling the southern perimeter of the Universal Studios theme park, over to the CityWalk lagoon and back.

Coldn't they have come up with a better name? " Hollywood Rip Ride RockIt"? Japan's sounds better, and Hollywood Dream: The Coaster sounds almost as sad. Other than the name, Good Job Universal! Looks like something I'm gonna have to see when I get there in 3 years or so.

Wow, this looks interesting, I've always enjoyed the incorporation of music into a roller coaster. The fact that I get to choose what song I want to hear, makes it even cooler. :P

I wish Hollywood would get this (or something) soon. I mean the couple of attractions existing are decent, but we need MORE.

On topic: This at first struck me as kind of a rip-off of Rockin' Rollercoaster and rock-it mountain, but the customizable soundtrack is pretty unique.

There are too many differences between them to say that they are similar. The only thing that is similar is that it is a roller coaster in a theme park and it has on board audio.

One is indoors, one is not. One is going to let you choose your song, one is not. One is going to record a video of you on the ride, one is not.

The ride vehicles are not going to be anywhere near the same, and with the 90 degree lift hill and going through city walk, this coaster is going to be pretty intense!

It will also add an awesome kinetic energy to the CityWalk area, and really pull you into UO.

I'd love to see a site plan to see how it will interact with CityWalk.

The name is lame and too long. Then again, Universal seems to generally suck in the name department.

This ride is really going to add to the entrance area of the Studios park, IMO. Having that big coaster near the entrance, and cars zooming out into Citywalk ... that's going to be awesome. Talk about an attention hog!

Unfortunately being that the Hollywood park is an actual studio, the chances of getting something like this are slim and none. I've always thought having a coaster that goes from the upper to lower level and all around would be awesome. I just can't see it happening.

Yet another reason to get to USF.

Looks awesome! One more reason to cut short my next Disneyworld trip and add a few days at Universal. Between Harry Potter, Simpsons, and Hollywood, Universal is hugely stepping up their Orlando game. This really is smart planning on their part. Upping attractions at both IOA and USF can only help to turn the Orlando resort into a true multi-day attraction, while Disney's lack of recent investment in some of their properties (for me Animal Kingdom and even EPCOT are nearly half day parks) could easily lead to some serious stolen nibbles from the mouse's central Florida pie. The best part of the competition, of course, is that we, the tourists, win either way.
Forget 'Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln,' Samantha Brown is Disney's most sophisticated animatronic.
