Re: The Simpsons Ride (On Ride Vid!)

Universal just doesn't get it, they're receiving great free promotion, better than anything their marketing department can devise, by having fan videos online to promote their rides. I was not interested in checking out USH until I saw this video. Universal will be getting money from me and my family because of this fan video, not because of any marketing they did. Watching a YouTube video of a ride is no substitute for the ride itself, it only whets the appetite to go see it in person and pay the money to do so.

Put yourself in their position. Say you've been working on a new movie for who knows what reason, but alot of people were excited about it. And somebody sneaks onto your computer, and takes the file, and posts it on the internet. I would be pretty mad, and have them take the video off. Same thing.

A movie is different from a ride. I can't experience a ride to much extent from a YouTube video, but a movie I could watch the whole thing on my computer as a comparable experience to the theater, and that I can see them getting upset about because then I probably wouldn't spend the money to see the movie in any other form. But an immersive theme park ride, I just don't see the threat to their profit margin, it's more like a missed opportunity on their part for free, grassroots marketing. Seeing the YouTube video persuades me to go to the park and spend money. Just reading about it didn't persuade me to go until I saw the video.

You're missing the point. Failure to defend a copyright can result in that copyright being declared void. And Universal doesn't own The Simpsons, Fox does.

If that's the case, then all those Star Trek and Star Wars websites have voided those property copyrights many times over. There are mountains and molehills, and this one video is a molehill.

That looks cool, but definitely nothing innovative here.

I liked the tribute to Back to the Future.

Re: The Simpsons Ride (On Ride Vid!)

Sorry, but Universal can't stop it. People will put videos up, Universal will take them down, People will put those videos back up, and so on and so fourth.

If anyone says they have "Seen it all on Youtube" and won't go to the parks because of it, then they are idiots. NOTHING beats going to the actual park and experiencing the ride for yourself. If you can't afford it however, this is as close to the ride you can get, but it still will increase interest in you as you want to know what the ride is really like. In reality, these videos increase interest in the parks, and people who watch that like what they see will want to experience the real thing.

I assure you that both Fox and Paramount aggressively police "all those websites." If they do not, as I said, they run the risk of having their copyrights voided. This is exactly the same thing. Every major media company does this. Every single one.

The point is not to stop every single pirate video. The point is to show that they are enforcing their copyright, so someone years later can't use their failure to do so as evidence that they have abandoned it.

looked at the video and other than being cgi.... it just looks like another simulator ride
The fountain of youth really is in Florida... thats why they built Walt Disney World where they did.

Looks like the prefect ride to go on when your high. I think this ride is a bit late coming out. It should've been out when Simpsons were in their prime. I guess this was driven by the release of the movie?
