the 24th will be very crowded. Do the pre-scare boo-fet so you get a head start on the mazes. And dont worry about the chainsaws. I seem to remember someone saying there is only 3 in the park.

    Re: Knott's Scary Farm 2008

See... I was debating on the pre scare buffet but where I work I kinda got a bonus for doing well on what I do at work and went crazy on getting gift cards and other goodies for things on the trip [which is how I am paying for the hotel we are staying at and gas]

So being that I am going to be shelling out a bit on the Disneyland Tickets and Haunt I had figured doing Black Angus down the street since it would in essence be free for us to have dinner and drinks with the gift cards I have.... plus its Steak Dinner [though I can really just save them for the Black Angus down the street from where I live at Metrocenter]... Now I am already knowing that by doing this I am in essence giving up the extra half hour into the park I was shooting on doing by going for the buffet... but free steak dinner and drinks or half an hour early entry.... what suggestions does anyone have?

I was actually going to cancel the Disneyland trip this year but after finding out I could get the hotel and gas to cali paid for... I decided on making it out into a win win situation for an untimate Halloween Weekend and Haunt was one of those things my sister and a few other representatives had recommended when they came out to visit our office about a month ago... so we kinda planned it into our Disneyland trip this year.

I know my sister and I are planning on getting to the gates as early as we can and getting everything done to start the night off early such as having more of a lunch at Black Angus at about 3:30 to 4:00pm immediately after checking into the hotel and getting to the gates as quickly and early as possible... but would it be a better idea to just do the buffet instead? Also how is the food at the buffet... would it be a better idea than Black Angus? I am debating on cost for buffet vs. free black angus.

We already are anticipating big crowds on that night... I have been reading to hit the log ride first and the mine train... and some people have said to hit the back of the park first and move your way forward... is this a good plan of attack for a more crowded night?

    Re: Knott's Scary Farm 2008

Oh I am already so excited and am probably going to have a lot of fun!!! Its only 10 days away... lol

I am excited to see The Labrynth, Pyromaniax [its the log ride so it earns novelty points for that], Black Widows Cavern [novelty points earned for mine train], Cornstalkers, 13 axe murder manor, The Doll Factory, Club Blood, and Quarantine... then if I gvet those done I will wanna hit the others up!

One question about Club Blood... is it a 2 for 1 deal with the Asylum meaning you must go through the Asylum first and then you enter Club Blood immediately after? And if so how does it work out since i would assume the transition from Mental patients to Vampires would be kinda odd imo... but I love vampires and wanna see Club Blood yet the whole inmates running the Asylum thing has been done so many times every halloween with numerous events all over so it doesnt really strike me as one to really want to wait in a long line to see unless Knotts does something with theirs that truly wows me

if I have to manage my time going on a crowded day I am tempted at skipping a few of the more common themes [such as Clowns, 3d mazes, Slaughterhouses, Asylums, and Aliens since those are done at different events all over]... though if it is a 2 for 1 deal for the Asylum it would knock out two mazes in one stone and I would be pretty happy

And good to hear they dont go too crazy with Chainsaws since I prefer the classic type of scares that dont involve buzzing power tools and the scares that you dont see that come up right behind you... Now those type of scares are fun since its always a surprise that you least expect and it doesnt just rely on OMG! Buzzing power tool to scare.... I am hoping Knotts does a lot of the scares without the use of weapons or power tools since those are always more fun.

i would very strongly suggest trying to make reservations for the pre-scare buffet, as early as possible, preferably 5pm. that 24th will be VERY crowded and if you decide to eat elsewhere, i would make every attempt to get to knotts by 4pm to line up for the 7pm entrance time, any later than that and you will find many lane closures and a very long back up along Beach Blvd, La Palma and Western with all the people trying to get into knotts for Haunt.

if the log and mine rides are priorities for you, hit them up first, they have really slow ride capacites and end up being the longest lines before too long into the night, and honestly, there's not a lot of payoff for that kind of wait.

yes Asylum and Club Blood are one right after the other, you must go thru Asylum to get to Club Blood, but this will be the last year for Asylum and the talent is doing an excellent job. Be sure to look for the nurses, maybe if you're lucky you'll see Poison or Pasta, they are amazing talents.

Quarantine's line moves very well, don't be intimidated by a long one. Cornstalkers is worth the wait imho. 13AMM is also in its last year, and at least from my end will be sorely missed. Doll Factory is just about as well done as it was last year (plus you get to see The Girl and the rest of the crazy doll girls).

I would honestly make Killer Clown Kollege and Lost Vegas the toss away mazes, meaning if you don't get to them, oh well. Neither of them have the quality that would make me stand in line for 60mins to go through.

The klowns of Carnevil do a cute little 10min show next to the Diner (not johnny rockets) at 830, 930 and 1030 each night, its actually quite a hoot.

You will find 2 chainsaws in CarnEvil and 2 in Ghost Town Streets. Not every 6feet like at HHN Hollywood

all in all the night will be a challenge due to being a friday and late in the run. not exactly the best for someone experiencing Haunt for the first time, but you should be able to get in a few of the higher end mazes and see some great action in the street zones. just be expected to do a lot of standing around in line.

and again, i can't stress enough how much you should try and get in on the pre-scare buffet

hope you have a good time

    Re: Knott's Scary Farm 2008

Thanks for the tips and thats good with the Asylum being a 2 for 1 since thats 2 mazes for one wait in line... and I hope Knotts does something unique with their take on mental patients gone wild.

And I guess I will be thinking of the Pre scare buffet... I guess taking in the entire experience should be first priority and what better way than the buffet... and I might skip the Clown Maze altogether since we have a Clown Haunt out here which is put on by the people who did Alice Coopers Nightmare.

I would have chosen this weekend for my trip but someone in my department took the whole week off and having saturday sunday off I am Kinda obligated to taking the trip close to the weekend taking off Friday and doing Haunt on Friday to start off the trip... Friday is like the only day we can do it without cutting into the Disneyland Trip my sister has been planning for Saturday and Sunday... and getting between Disneyand and my sister and her time in the parks... that is cause for the Wrath and it would not be pretty

    Re: Knott's Scary Farm 2008

well friday the 24th will be a better choice than saturday the 25th would have been, saturdays are always the most crowded of the week, and typically have the worst attendees, many of whom apparently think its "cool" to sit around and drink all day then come to Haunt.

another good word of advice, from about 115am until the park closes at 2am you should be able to hit up a few of the mazes with some shorter lines, most people start dragging themselves out of the park around 1am, and that makes for shorter queues inside the park

Hahaha! I wish I learned this before I had bought my tickets for Saturday as this was definitely true. Lots of surly guests and immature little kids who think it's funny to cut in line, drop trash straight on the floor, mock the line monitors, push up against my back because I'm "not moving fast enough", and tell others to "Stop taking ******** pictures!" (and by "others" I mean me and my friend who were not using flash nor holding the line up in any way). It's kind of scary when the monsters are behaving better than the guests.

That's not to say all the guests there were like that. There were a lot of people genuinely there to have fun and they're what make the event special (it wouldn't be fun to be there all by yourself, you know!)

And thanks again Elly for the excellent advice. We got there an hour and half early, was let in around 6:00, and let in to the rest of the park at around 6:40 allowing us to get through 5 mazes within 2 hours, watch The Hanging front row, and in total got through 10 mazes including the two rides before the lines became intolerable. (We missed out on Lost Vegas, 13 Axe Murder Mansion, and the Doll Factory.) Knott's was definitely better than USH in my opinion and my friend had a much better time too.

(But I will say, thanks to the posters in the Funnel Cake thread in the DL forum, Knott's funnel cakes are worth the $7.)

One more thought: the line to Cornstalkers/Killer Klown Kollege is a wasted space. There's so much opportunity for monsters to roam up and down and there are the parked trains there too which could be used as hiding spots!

    Re: Knott's Scary Farm 2008

^i'm really bummed you missed The Doll Factory, the crew in there definantly is pulling out all stops to be as good as they were last year when they were (as defined by most haunt related websites) the maze of the year.

and you ain't kidding about those funnel cakes, they're awesome! i also discovered the joy of the boysenberry punch icee's this year, heaven!

we saw them loading the line for Constalkers all the way up at KCK, which was odd, give how far the entrance for Cornstalkers acutally was from there. The kind of empty space is what the walk from Ghost Town proper to where the Asylum is used to be like...nothing. This year Knott's really did an amazing job of theming the entire walk down to Aslyum and Club Blood and letting Ghost Town Street monsters get in some great scare oppurtunities as well

I was bummed too, but the line extended all the way to the Pony Express line and then it got blurred so I didn't know which line was for what. The same with 13 AMM. I went to Knott's last year around this same time and there was virtually no wait so I figured it would be the same for this year and didn't rush to it.

The lines at KHH are really confusing...the start of the line are always so far from the attraction and aren't listed on the map. When we went to line up for The Asylum and Club Blood, it came to a standstill. My friend went up to those sign holder people and they told her it was closed! So everybody in the long line started to leave but I wanted to wait because how could a maze close at 11 PM when Knott's closes at 1 AM?! Thankfully we did because they un-closed the mazes or whatever and we got to visit them.

My bad But there's always next yeeeear

(And also a little fun tidbit from our trip: after we left around 12 AM, we went to try going to TGIF's because for some reason I got the impression they stayed open late. It wasn't, and all the stools and chairs were put up and stuff. So my friends and I sat on the bench next to it to wait for my parents to pick us up. Then all of a sudden we see flashing lights and Knott's security come up to TGIF. The ambulance and two police cars park right in front of us and wheeled a gurney into TGIF and came out with a man. He wasn't wearing an oxygen max or anything and he looked like he was sleeping and I was like "OH MAN IRONIC!" Because we just came out of Knott's laughing at all these violent forms of death and here was a guy coming out looking dead!

Anyway, so they wheel the guy into the ambulance, but oddly, they don't drive away. They stop and talk to him and whoever's in the ambulance. Then all of a sudden I hear shouting. My friends tell me--because I zoned out and wasn't paying attention--that they took the guy out of the ambulance, arrested him, and put him away in a police car yelling "DO NOT RESIST US, SIR!" Then they drive away. I have no idea what the heck happened, but I thought that was a fun little diversion while we waited.)

I'm so pumped for next year. If it got this good in one year, just imagine the possibilities....

    Re: Knott's Scary Farm 2008

sometimes they'll close the mazes when there's too many people in that section of the park in hopes of it disappating the crowd. so they'll close it for a bit, then reopen. Club Blood/Asylum and Doll Factory/13AMM areas seem to get the most overcrowded becuase i think tha'ts where people head first when they enter the park

They are real, but they take the chains off of them.

I remember years ago they had a kid in a long "trench coat", that would walk out in to a crowd, pull a chain saw out from under his coat and start it up. IT was fun to watch the crowd "move " away.
