Mexico-- Cancun area?

I need some help!

We're going to Cancun (or Cozumel, Playa Del Carmen, etc) in November and I need help finding an all-inclusive that's family friendly, has good food, isn't too cheesy, has beach access, and amazing pools.

Any tips? Places to stay away from? Things to do in that area? Things to skip?

And yes I've been to Tripadvisor....which has almost too much information. Thanks!

Try www.locogringo.com.
We actually rented a beach house (there were ten of us, which made it quite affordable) and our favorite thing was the chef that came with it. He made whatever we wanted and none of us got sick since we weren't eating all the restaurant food.

Locogringo will have trip reviews and such so that you can get an idea of what is at each resort and you can ask questions too.

Re: Mexico-- Cancun area?

My wife and I are currently building a house there. If you can, send me a private message and give me some idea of how many people will be going and their ages and I would be happy to suggest appropriate activities and restaurants. There are plenty of great areas from Cancun, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, etc... Will you have a rental car?

Re: Mexico-- Cancun area?

When we went we didn't do the all-inclusive, but our neighbors did and ended up staying at Cancun Palace. I think it had a mini-golf course and it's right on the beach. Plus, they could visit sister properties and still have the all-inclusive services.

Re: Mexico-- Cancun area?

My wife, daughter (almost 2) and I were just there in June. We stayed at the Club Med and found it to be very family friendly. The GO's (people who work there) were very friendly. The food was good. The beach there is nice and it has one of the best snorkeling spots in Cancun right on the property. The only drawback is it doesn't have a spectacular pool like you see in many of the other resorts, but they do have the trapeze school (really fun), so that made up for it in my book.

We didn't really go off the property very much so I can't give you any advice on anything else, but we did drive by the HUGE resorts just up the road. They seemed so impersonal in comparison. If you look elsewhere, I'd avoid most of the Cancun resort area and look into the resorts in the Riviera Maya / Playa Del Carmen area. We didn't stay there, but we thought about going to the Paradisus also because it looked kid friendly.

Have fun!

Thanks, that's been a godsend!

Well since I initially posted, it's turned from a family vacation to a romantic trip. Poor kids are getting sent to grandma's.

We're seriously looking at the Excellence Riviera Cancun.

Or the Barcelo Maya resort.

We'd looked at doing a small house with a private pool and beach but 8 days locked away with my husband, I might hurt him. We need activities and other people...and I need a bar or ten.
