Man Hit By Roller Coaster At Magic Mountain

Man Hit By Roller Coaster At Magic Mountain
Written by Jon Dell
Sunday, 31 August 2008

Man was reportedly in an unauthorized area when he was hit by Ninja ride.
UPDATE - 9:02 p.m

Quote:
Six Flags Magic Mountain officials have confirmed that a man was struck by a ride at the park in Santa Clarita.

The incident, which involved a 20 year old man, occurred just after 4:00 p.m. Saturday. According to the park, the man scaled at least one fence and entered a “visibly restricted area.”

Once in the restricted area he was struck by the Ninja roller coaster. Magic Mountain officials report that park medical personnel were on scene within two minutes, and found the man unconscious but breathing. They contacted 911 and the man was transported to the hospital.

The park released a statement saying; “As required by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), Ninja is surrounded by 6-foot and 7-foot fences that are clearly marked by signs stating the area is restricted to authorized personnel only.”

Sue Carpenter , spokesperson for Six Flags told KHTS that, according to the man's brother in law, he was attempting to retrieve his hat, which had fallen off on the ride.

His medical condition is not known.

Hopefully he is ok, but he deserved it...shouldn't have been going through fences.

These fences say NO ENTRY for a reason. Good lord why do people lose their IQ when they visit amusement parks?

People must really love their hats. This young man must not have been watching tv or reading the paper as someone just got beheaded but a month or two ago trying to retrieve his hat in a restricted zone.

I mean, really?

I feel bad for Six Flags, how do you combat stupidity? Do they need to put electrical fences around all the areas that already say stay out? If multiple signs warning them to keep out and fencing does not do it what will?

Nah. Because then people who simply touch or lean on the fence would get electrocuted. Put barbed wire up.

Oops I guess I should have said should the top of the fences all be electrified but razer wire might work too.

Re: Man Hit By Roller Coaster At Magic Mountain

I cannot believe how many people ignore warning signs and risk their lives to get lost hats and other items. If they care about the items that much , then take them off and hang onto them tightly during the ride. Or if they didn't do that, but need the item that badly, ask a park attendant if it can be retrieved once the ride/park closes for the day.

Re: Man Hit By Roller Coaster At Magic Mountain

If I recall correctly, almost all amusements parks have announcements made as you wait in line for the ride and again as you board the ride to "hang on to them hats and glasses!" It's such a simple direction!
