Quick trip to Zion

My family decided we'd do a quick trip to Zion National Park to do a hike enjoy a day out and about.

Here is our 2nd run in with wildlife, the first being a squirrel:

This was right before it attacked and jumped on my husbands shirt

I really enjoy the new (well new to me) shuttle system they have in place, it made the park itself much more serene. All cars must park and get on a shuttle to enjoy the inside loop of the park. The shuttle drivers were great and gave us lots of insight into the history of the park and things to do and see.

We decided to do Lower Emerald Pools as it is a 1.2 mile round trip fairly easy hike as my daughter is four and newer to hiking.

It was a really great day for a hike, the clouds drifted on and off so it never go too sunny and hot.

The trail was also nice and shady, I loved seeing all the green as well.

Gratuitous mountain shot (c:

This is the underside of the waterfall, pretty decent for a desert type waterfall, definitley would take at least two garden hoses to recreate the waterflow.

I loved all of the vegetation, there was also a huge yellow butterfly floating through the area.

And here it is the highlight of my trip report... the backside of water!

My daughter wasn't tired after Lower Emerald Pools, so we hiked up to Middle Emerald Pools

And went back by way of the Grotto trail... in hindsight this was not the best of ideas as the Grotto trail had some steep drop offs that made me nervous with my daughter but we always kept her to the inside of the trail with me or my husband on the outside and she did fine. Several groups passed us with kids younger than her bounding along so I'm probably just being paranoid.

A Leopard Lizard that was kind enough to pose for me.

It was a beautiful view and a beautiful day and a great trip all around!

Re: Quick trip to Zion

Wow great pics. we've only driven through Mt. Zion once

My wife was annoyed that we couldn't spend more time there,as we were on a dead line to get to California, and stumbled onto Zion, so we stopped by the side of the road and snapped a couple of pics.

Re: Quick trip to Zion

It's in southern Utah, probably 30 mins or so away from St George. It's all part of the 'Grand Staircase' which starts with Bryce Canyon (also a beautiful spot) then to Zion and then to the Grand Canyon. It's an amazing place, very inspiring.
