What is your criteria?

For a Family Park, Knott's.

For Thrills, Six Flags Magic Mountain by far. The West Coast Roller Coaster Capital!!!

I love them both, and SFMM has the edge in my personal poll.

Cool Re: six flags or knotts?

This is the first KBF reference I've seen here in some time that didn't have about a 1/2 dozen posts saying how it stinks compared to how it used to be. I've only been once since 1969 myself, so can't really say.

A bientot.

Re: six flags or knotts?

I'd probably choose Knott's, since it's closer. The first and last time I went to Magic Mtn was in 1992, when I was a young lad of 21 - HAHA Haven't had the desire to go again.......

Hear hear to that. We all know this is a Disney forum, but Knott's is not as bad as many here make it out to be. I actually like it quite a bit.

That said, I agree with the above: if you want family/pre-teen level thrills, go for KBF. High adrenaline stuff, head over to SFMM--which has been going through quite overhaul in staffing and upkeep (for the better).

I could not agree more! I miss...

the funnel cake stand by the log ride
reflections lake and the water show they used to have
Reflections chapel where people would actually get married
The sky jump
soap box derby
Kingdom of the Dinosaurs
the one steak house in Ghost Town
The Whirlpool and Greased Lighting
The Haunted Shack
anything remotely old west about Ghost Town even if it was corny

shall I go on about what I miss about Knotts... lol

I cant really complain because the thrill rides are fun and I will always love knotts for the thrill rides and the fact its always been a favorite and I also cant complain since I am going to Haunt for the first time this month... but seriously over the years... Cedar Fair has ripped apart everything that makes Knotts... well Knotts!

Re: six flags or knotts?

the funnel cake stand by the log ride - OPEN

reflections lake and the water show they used to have - Removed

Reflections chapel where people would actually get married -MOVED but open near
Independence Hall

The sky jump - Removed for safety issues

soap box derby - Removed

Kingdom of the Dinosaurs - Removed, and I don't miss it, especially after the change in vehicles for safety issues

the one steak house in Ghost Town - OPEN, ate at Ghost Town Grill last weekend

The Whirlpool and Greased Lighting - Removed

The Haunted Shack - removed for ADA issues

anything remotely old west about Ghost Town even if it was corny - A lot of it is still around, including some sets that have pre-recordered voices, and Sad Sack Joe who still talks on a daily basis from his Jail Cell (and is live).

Thats good to hear the Funnel Cake stand is still open... I didnt see it on my last trip to Knotts about a year and a half ago and good to know the Ghost Town Grill is still there... I remember both of those were the highlight of going to Knotts.

Please tell me Blacksmith and the Calico Saloon are still there too along with the old west dancers.

And Sad Sack Joe is exactly what I meant by corny yet fun along with the steam train robberies [always fun]

Re: six flags or knotts?

If I still had Disneyland and then had to choose whether to go to Knott's or Six Flags, I'd go with Six Flags for all the coasters.

I feel that Knott's is just... watered down theming a lot of the time. (panda express? come on).

Sad EYED Joe

Knott's also has a wonderful carousel, and of course the Bud Hurlbut built Calico Mine Ride.

The Blacksmith shop is still there, as is the Saloon, and the can can dancers.

Re: six flags or knotts?

Six Flags is good for coasters since there are a lot.... but since I've gotten older, the loops make me really queasy so not worth it for me to pay admission and just wait while my daughter and friends go on the coasters...( yes I'm only the driver) Last time I went,, noticed other parents came prepared with books.... Our company is having a private day at Six Flags in Nov... so plan is to just drop off my daughter and friends then pick up when it closes-- no standing around for me this time...

Knotts is alot more friendlier for little kids that are not into coasters but if I'm in that area... would rather go to DL for a Disney fix

Re: six flags or knotts?

Even with all it's "flaws", Knotts comes out on top for me.

I don't do spins and thrills anymore and that drive to SF, yikes! I find that SF is much, much dirtier than Knotts and it's so spread out. Did I mention hills, lots of them?? This out of shape, rapidly approaching elderly lady doesn't like hills unless they are alive with natural beauty (and the sound of music, of course!).

Plus....fried chicken, KBF has fried chicken! And, it tastes good, too! Just like candy.....no wait, wrong memory It's great!
