Visiting Kennedy Space Center without paying admission?

We will be staying near Port Canaveral prior to our Disney Cruise. We have a the evening available and was thinking of visiting the Kennedy Space Center. I checked out their website and they close at 5:30 PM, so we would not have much time there. I also saw that their last tour was at 1:30 PM. Would it even be worth it to drive there to look around. I remember many years back that there were some areas open without requiring admission. Is this still so?

There are some areas that are open to the public. However if you just want to look around you can go to the Astronaut Hall of Fame. While it does require admission to enter you can look around (and park) for free. But there is not a ton to see there.

I know Orlando Fun Tickets does sell discount tickets to the Kennedy Space Center I know that you do get 2nd consecutive day free with that ticket so if you had time in the morning the next day you could go back and hit what you missed!

Thanks for the info. I really wish we had more time, but I don't want to be rushing to see it all. We'll have to plan a trip specifically to the KSC.
