Great America Fright Fest?

Hey everyone!

Just wondering if any of you have been to the Halloween Haunt at Great America up here in Northern CA?

Is it worth the $35?

Are most of the rides up and running or only a few?

We're thinking of going this weekend and I'd like some feedback before I plunk down the moo-lah!

Thanks.

EDIT: The title of this thread is wrong. It should read "Great America Halloween Haunt".

Re: Great America Fright Fest?

There have been many good reviews across the web of the event.

Personally thought it was one of the best haunts in Northern California.

It's definitely something to do, but I wouldn't call it memorable at all. I went on opening night when it was virtually empty. All the rides were running and pretty much walk-on (huge plus) but the atmosphere was pretty blah.

The mazes were predictably sub-par but it's heavily dependent on the talent working it. One of the mazes (carn-evil) had a clown scareactor just walk out in front of us... no popping/jumping out, no "boo" or "ahh", just quietly walked out in front like we weren't there? It was right when they opened, thought they'd be full of energy. The scare zones were 100 feet of fog machines and a couple of teenagers in makeup hanging out. The live shows are a good change of pace.

Overall, the 5 hours go by pretty quickly if you're in good company. And for theme park halloween events in the bay area, it's creme of the (tiny) crop.

Jar,
Things have gotten much better since opening night. The talent is much improved, and have figured things out well. If you are a gold or platinum pass holder, I suggest giving Haunt another shot.

Sounds like you enjoyed yourself on your visit none the less.

Re: Great America Fright Fest?

that's the thing with opening nights of a first year haunt, ther'es definantly going to be some things that need some tweaking. sounds like they have improved a bit, and i know Cedar Fair had a bunch of their management people at Haunt on oct 8th (it was like a sea of Yellow Shirts!) to watch and learn from the original Haunt
