2008 World Series Game 1

So last night I went to Game 1 of the 2008 World Series. The Tampa Bay Rays are playing against the Philadelphia Phillies. This is the first time the Rays have been in it in franchise history. They've had an amazing season... and this is a team that has been baseball's doormat since 1998!

Time for the pics!

Waiting for the gates to open

Inside, they have a tank behind the outfield that has real rays in it you can feed and pet.

Look at all the media folk!

A closer look

FOX doing their pre-game report stuff

See, I was there!

Introducing the Rays!

Fire makes everything better!

The Backstreet Boys sang the National Anthem

Gametime!

The first pitch

Evan Longoria

This Phillies fan in my section was highly amusing. He wasn't too obnoxious and was actually a pretty good sport. He even took someone's Rays cowbell and was ringing it and cowered when a Rays fan beat him with their hat. And he danced... a lot.

Rays lost 3-2 but I had a lot of fun. It was my first World Series game. Hopefully the Rays will do better tonight in game 2. I'll be watching at the local Buffalo Wild Wings.

A cop took this pic for me.

Afterwards, security was hollering at this guy way up in the stands who was reading a book, that it was time to go. The guy seemed totally oblivious and the cop said, "Maybe it's Stephen King!" referring to when they showed him in the crowd at one of the ALCS games in Boston last week. The Red Sox were losing their butts off, so he was reading a book instead. Anyhow, that comment got a laugh out of me and I hi-fived the cop. LOL!

THE END!

Cool TR. A world series game must be incredible.

Quick question, in this and your last TR that stadium looked really small. How many people does it seat?

Re: 2008 World Series Game 1

The Trop holds around 40,000 people. Before the Rays came in 1998, it was called the Thunderdome as the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team played there before moving to the St Pete Times Forum (formerly the Ice Palace).

Lucky you!

I wish I could have gone to a World Series game when the Angels were in it.

Go Rays!

Awesome. I didn't get to go to any in 2002 but I did see all 3 division series games that year. Thanks for posting! Nothing like the electricity of a post-season game!

Re: 2008 World Series Game 1

I bet being there is NOTHING like seeing it on TV, and even then, a WS game is energizing! I've never had the opportunity to go to a WS or playoff game, but I bet it was amazing. Great TR!

I love that Stephen King bit too!

Another nice Trip Report. Wish that I could have gone to the Angels World Series too.
Hopefully Rays win tonight.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Maybe you should stop going to the games as the Rays seem to lose everytime you do.

J/K ... maybe.

They won the regular season game I went to in August.

No more postseason games for me this year anyway.

So happy they won tonight!

Nice TR.

I remember going to the '98 series when the Padres (Yes, those Padres) were in it against the Yankees. I had nosebleed seats, it was still energizing to be there even though the Pads got their butts handed to them.

Re: 2008 World Series Game 1

Nothing beats the vibe of being at a postseason game. And I got to go to TWO this year! I've been a baseball fan my whole life, so these are memories I will cherish forever.

Re: 2008 World Series Game 1

Nice report. Some moments in our lives are very special, and may never happen again. It is nice when we can capture them through pictures. Someone asked about seating capacity. Wrigley only holds just a little more than 40,000. Makes it a little harder to get a ticket. I stopped trying years ago.

Enjoy the rest of "your" World Series.

Re: 2008 World Series Game 1

I haven't been this excited about a World Series since the Tigers were in it in 2006.

The Rays are this year's Cinderella story.
