San diego Zoos new Elephant enclosure opening 5/23!

Where are they putting it though? where the old exhibit was?

Looks nice though and I like they are adding stuff for the kids to do(since wild Animal park has the small playground for now) and adding new animals to the area too that are only seen in WAP for now.

EDIT: ok reading more clearly..thats where it is. looks like that whole area I will have to miss...I think

its not in the old area, its at the top of the hill above the polar bears. its been under construction awhile and looks like a great improvement to an already amazing zoo! the elephants are currently still in the old area with a couple fake transport boxes in the enclosure to get them used to them.

Does anyone know what is going to happen to the old elephant exhibit? Its a pretty big spot in a nice location and I'm curious as to what will take it's spot.

I'm excited to see the new Elephant Odyssey! It looks beautiful and it will be nice to see them get a larger enclosure.

We were just there on Friday (4/10) and construction is humming along. The top level of the bus tour gives a great view of the area. It's a huge expanse, all along the back of the zoo from the Takins to the Meerkats. I'm sad we won't get to enjoy it anytime soon, but I really loved my very first visit - it was overwhelming!

I LOVE the San Diego zoo. Taking the Skyfari a few weeks ago, I could see just how HUGE the new elephant enclosure is. Impressive.

So far, all of the new exhibits have really enhanced the zoo and helped remove the old concrete cages. I'd still like to see them completely redo Bear canyon. It makes me sad to see them all pacing back and forth on the concrete.
