Trip Report Joshua Tree National Park - (not) Just Deserts

I was lucky enough to get to Joshua Tree National Park this weekend and it was beautiful!
The wind was strong at times but well worth the trip!

Here are some of the Joshua Trees in question:

Some of the other vegetation was quite lovely:

These will grab you if you're not careful!

We did the 1 mile hike to Barker Dam:

And they even have decent facilities!

One thing they have in abundance: ROCKS!

No Swimming! And no water...

Here is Barker Dam:

Written in cement at building:

Nearby, petroglyphs on the rocks:

We did see a few desert dwellers too:

Some of the bushes had these bundles of silky webs with wormy things crawling around inside:

And then off to Keys View with the most incredible... well... views!

On the way through Yucca Valley, we stopped at Big Lots and found this beauty:

John Lasseter and Pele from the Enchanted Tiki Room!
Actually, that's me holding a pretty reasonable facsimile of Pele in the statue section of the store. For $40 it could be yours! There were 2 there when I left...

Pezz!!!! You were in my town and you didn't let me know!!!!! Holy Moly I live not far from that Big Lots!!! Darn it all if you come up here again you better let me know so we can have lunch!!

And the wild flowers haven't fully blossomed yet. Another week or two and up here they should be at their peak.

Great TR Pezz, I love Joshua Tree NM and its namesake trees that make you think your high even when you are not.

Anyhow, I did not buy that Pele (since there's no more room for stuff. really) but I did the next best thing... Take a picture!

So let me know if you snap one up and leave a picture of it here...
