Hard Rock Park To Change Name ..Creating New Attractions

While corporate Hard rock was fine with the new owners keeping the hard Rock name, fomer propriator Steve Goodwin's (HRP Creative) creative intellectual rights claim and his excessive demands has caused the present owners to tell him thanks ..but no thanks. So, now what good ol' Steve has is nothing ..and frankly, the creep deserves it.

"You can expect virtually all of the major attractions to feature new names as well, due to the potential lawsuit from HRP Creative. This extends to the live entertainment options in the park as well, as I’ve been told that the great Malibu Beach Party, Roadies Stunt Show and even the well received Bohemian Rhapsody fireworks show will be no more. On the plus side, I have heard that the replacement fireworks show is looking to be even better and longer, but is still very much “in development” right now. A new ice skating show will be put into the same theater, just with brand new musical acts, and I’ve heard something about some kind of acrobatic / tumbler show being planned for the former Hard Rock Live concert stage site."

I would think it likely that new and better rides will be in the offering either in 2009 or 2010 ..including another cool dark ride. Plus, I would imagine the park will come to boast one or more water rides. Wish the new owners all the luck in the world. This may turn out to be a winner of a park yet.

Hard Rock Park was (until now) a theme park licensed thru Hard Rock International ..an American corporation that owns Hard Rock Cafes the world over (one of their best being in Las Vegas), and at least one Hard Rock Hotel that I know of (located at Universal Studios in Orlando). Everything they touch is highly successful and fun ..except the Hard Rock Park under it's former owners. But that wasn't the corporation's fault. The park is located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

South Carolina: Hard Rock Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It actually looks like a really cool park... very well themed I think and it'll be a shame if they don't get it functional and profitable.

It is a cool park indeed ..and only one year old. Very few new cohesively themed upsprout parks these days. According to reports, the new owners plan to keep all the rides except a darkride (the park's only one). They will change the names of all the rides, and retheme them.

Plus, as I said in Post 1, they are adding a lot of hot new entertainment venus. I would imagine they will put in a major darkride soon, that has more of an understandable plot and is more family oriented.

The attitude of the new owners leads me to beleave that it will end up being even better than before, now.

Well it seems like they got a bargain for the park, so they should be able to pump quite a bit more money in.

I'm happy to hear that someone is putting effort into saving this park, however I am a bit disappointed that they'll have to change the theming. That was one of the draws for me wanting to go there. Hopefully whatever the new owners come up with will be equally enticing.

Very much enjoy your inciteful, positive viewpoints. They are certainly planning on beefing up the entertainment offerings. That's a big step in the right direction. I agree that the bargain purchase price should help free up moogoo cash for development ..hopefully the new owners will bring darkrides and water rides to the resort.

The venue plan of the old owners didn't work ..so why not make it more of a family oriented park? For the time being, they have enough coasters and flatrides.

Re: Hard Rock Park To Change Name ..Creating New Attractions

According to a new rumor, CSI Live (an interactive live show) will replace the Roadies show. A CSI show sounds so much cooler than grungy roadies.

A BMX/scateboard show will run over and flatten out the Malibu Beach Party. That was a dumn attraction anyway. If it would have been a real beach party like it sounded, the former show might have been inticing. But there was nothing exciting about it ..no bikini clad beach blanket bimbos ..no beach vollyball, or wild dancing, or surfing.

So far, the transformation of Hard Rock Park is looking like a very good move.

I think your question helps explain why it failed last year.

Re: Hard Rock Park To Change Name ..Creating New Attractions

There's a lot of rumors going about on what the new name for the park is, but it seems that the one that could be it is....

Freestyle Music Park

...

If that ends up being the name, I honestly wonder what the heck were they were thinking?

I know the current management wants to keep the music theme, but Freestyle is a word that's more known with sports then music.

This pretty much sums it all up.

The name gives me jock itch. FreestyleMusicPark.com as a domain title has indeed been purchased. Like you AE_Fan, hope the owners have a serious change of heart and soul. Pun intended.

I'm going to be totally honest here, the only way I'm going to have a change of heart and soul is if the park survives this season.

I will admit my viewpoint on the whole park was totally different when the concept of it was announced, I was pretty excited for it. Well after the park was opened, and I found out how the old management was treating things...I found the park closing early was very fitting karma for the management for being extremely over-confident.

Now while I am happy there is a new management in town, I really do not agree with some of their choices.

Such as removing the most unique attraction in the park in order to be more "family-friendly", yet in reality it was the only air-conditioned attraction in the park that just about anyone could ride, and the only "un-family-friendly" thing about it was the name and one single prop in the queue line.

Or them still being gung-ho on opening on Memorial Day, even though they'll have only about 6 weeks (Assuming they announce all the renamings today.) to really market the park.

Not to mention they probably should wait a bit so they can put in more attractions, which was a main complaint. (Not enough attractions, and now their down one since their not opening NIWS.)

While yes, the new management has and uphill battle to climb...if they survive, then I will most certainly have a change of heart. However if they crash and burn, I'm certainly going to feel sorry for those in the area. They were promised such a *nice* park, but it could never hold itself up.

Pretty much agree with you up and down the line. Haven't had the advantage of riding the darkride. Your review srves to counter some of those I had heard to the contray. I do like the show changes. Am hoping for new rides that are not typical carnival fair. We shall see.

Re: Hard Rock Park To Change Name ..Creating New Attractions

Well it's confirmed, Hard Rock Park is now Freestyle Music Park.

Freestyle Music Park

They just announced this today, and already this new name is getting smashed left and right by pretty much any site.

I know the manangement is already having an uphill battle, but man oh man, they are just making it harder for themselves!

I am now really curious and absolutly terrified to see what all the renamed attractions are going to be, with a rather blah name like Freestyle Music Park...I have a feeling we are going to see ride names that will out-do Cedar Fair's work ten-fold. (For those of you that don't know, CF has renamed certain Paramount attractions horribly. All the Drop Zone's were renamed into Drop Tower. All the Top Gun coasters were renamed into Flight Deck.)

This is going to be an interesting 6 weeks to re-opening.
