Hey, thanks very much. Can't wait to see your ideas!

And thanks to everyone else who has posted - there are some great tips here. I ended up booking the airfare (found a GREAT deal!), and the hotels for Sydney and Melbourne, but the activities and outings are still up in the air!

OK, here's my 2c, even though there's no such thing as a 2c any more LOL LOL
i'm not a fan of Melbourne. I have been there a few times, but wasn't impressed. I lived my entire life about 2 hours north from Sydney in Newcastle, which is a really nice place, and plenty of beaches, even an international surfing competition, and the hometown of Mark Richards, and Jennifer Hawkins LOL LOL, AND all that sand in Hawaii??? comes from Newcastle

Surfest 2009 - front_page

it's an easy train ride right into the centre of Newcastle

the red brick building on the very left, closest to the edge, is the hospital where I was born, and the building with the shining roof, I know the person that has the penthouse.
While in Sydney, you may want to go to the Vineyards, which is part of the Newcastle area, the Hunter Valley

I have been to Cairns, and it wasn't all I thought it would be LOL LOL The waterfront is like a lake, and at low tide there's nothing but MUD

You certainly don't go there for the water LOL LOL or beach. The reef is actually about a 90 minute boat ride away, and if you're there in summer, you can't swim because of the box jellyfish.
we stayed at Port Douglas, which is about an hour or so north, and it was lovely

and the Daintree Village, which is at the beginning of the rainforest

where you can do a boat tour and see crocs in the wild

this one is small, and very personal

Another day trip you can do on Quicksilver is a day out to the Low Isles. It's absolutely beautiful, and a day on a small island. They run glass bottom boat rides, snorkeling, provide everything, and it's a really relaxing day

there's nothing out there, but you and your group. No shops, no tourists (other than your group), but beauty, reef, wildlife, sun and sea. We did the glass bottom boat, and saw lots of turtles under the sea

where's the hotel in Sydney??
